Body Shape Definitions
- Perfect for Pear shape, Banana Shape, Hourglass Shape
Pear – a.k.a. bell shape – Baby got back! A natural shape, your shoulders and bust are narrower than your waist and hips. With your slim upper body and pronounced bottom, embrace your delicious shape with an accentuated waistline. Show off your curvy hips with a mermaid style gown.
Banana – this shape has many aliases: ruler, boy, or rectangle shape – Lacking in natural curves, the Banana shape is the most common. Your shoulders, bust, waist and hips will be straight. You will have to create a waist, try banded waistlines with ruched fabric to create a “cinched” look. You can also embrace your boyish figure with a Flapper style dress. Draped fabric adds dimension, so a wrap dress or a flowing Grecian style gown will enhance your shape.
Apple – a.k.a. oval shape – A feminine shape, curvy all over. You will be busty, bit of a tummy, and broad hips. A fuller skirt will hide your hips and accentuate your bust and waist. Wearing a strapless top will also bring out your beautiful shoulders. A tunic style dress, like a Grecian inspired gown, will flatter your curvy figure. A flowing dress with an embellished waistline will define your waist,
Hourglass – Shaped exactly as it looks, the hourglass is also a common shape. The hourglass figure is distributed evenly at the bust, cinches tight at the waist, and then flows out at the hips. A variety of silhouettes and styles compliment this figure.
Wedge – a.k.a. pizza shape, athletic body – If you’re blessed with an athletic body, you have broad shoulders, a tiny waist, and hips the same size as your waist. To give the allusion of the hourglass figure with your athletic shape, wear a dress with a cinched waist, strapless neckline and a full skirt. Or show off your toned, athletic legs with a short bubble skirt cocktail dress.
