Tips on Choosing Bridesmaid Dresses

tips on choosing bridesmaid dresses

When planning your wedding, bridesmaid dresses shouldn’t be treated as an afterthought, listed way below your wedding checklist. Remember that your bridesmaids are the women who have been with you through thick and thin and it won’t do for you to insult them with gaudy bridesmaid dresses that will look totally unflattering on them.

Believe it or not, choosing bridesmaid dresses can prove to be a test of friendship so if you want to ace that test and at the same time have a wonderful wedding, then consider the tips below:

Take Suggestions and Set a Budget

Be considerate and take suggestions from your bridesmaids. Of course the final decision is still up to you, but knowing what color and style of dress your bridesmaids prefer can give you a better idea on which dresses to choose and help you narrow down your choices.

Unless you’re paying for your bridesmaids’ dresses, it is best if you can get them all to agree on a budget.

 Complement the Dress or Theme

Your bridesmaids’ dresses should complement your dress beautifully, but be careful that they don’t look practically identical to your wedding dress. You can also opt for the bridesmaid dresses to match the theme of your wedding.

Mind the Size and Color

Do keep in mind that unless your bridesmaids are clones, they’re not going to have the same size and shape, and neither will they have identical skin tones so choose dresses that not only complement your wedding gown, but also flatter your bridesmaids’ bodies and skin tones.

Your best bet is an A-line dress since this looks good on most body shapes and sizes.

 Wear it Out

Since your bridesmaids will be paying good money for their dress, might as well choose ones they can wear over and over again to different occasions. Choose timeless dresses that they can literally wear out.

Coordinate

Lessen the stress of having to choose the perfect bridesmaid dresses simply by picking out a color and fabric and let the bridesmaids create any style of dress out of the material or get identical dresses, but with different lengths.

 Enjoy

It is your wedding and it’s completely understandable that you want everything to be perfect, but that shouldn’t mean doing everything by yourself. Lessen the stress that comes with choosing bridesmaid dresses and turn the task into something you and your girlfriends will enjoy. Plan the details over a small party (i.e. tea party)  exclusive to you and your bridesmaids and then shop for the dresses together. Don’t forget to breathe in, exhale, and relax.

Fashion and the Queen: 60 Years of Elizabeth II’s Style

pizap.com13379742068321

As Queen Elizabeth II celebrates 60 years on the throne this year, it’s only fitting to pay tribute to one of the century’s most elegant women and her impeccable fashion sense. Lauded by many as having an excellent sense of propriety and style, Her Majesty has never failed to look perfectly put together in every occasion, formal or informal.

So now let’s look back at The Queen’s best outfits through the years:

As a young woman, Her Majesty usually dressed in comfortable country clothes; but as she grew into being a young queen, she began to adopt more formal and mature styles.

The Queen’s earlier outfits were patterned after the “New Look,” made famous by none other than Christian Dior. As Elizabeth II ascended to the throne, her choice of clothing took on a more formal (but never boring) look. The duster coat–her signature item of clothing–may be very structured (and sometimes, boxy), but Her Majesty makes hers come to life by having them in bright colors. Even now in her eighties, she isn’t afraid of wearing her brights!

You don’t have to be a queen if you want to dress like one, thanks to MissesDressy. Our collection has the latest and the most stylish modest dresses that you can find. Here are some of the dresses we have in store if you wish to channel Her Majesty’s royal look:

MissesDressy congratulates Sahar Biniaz, aspiring actress and model, for bagging the Miss Canada Universe 2012 crown. The 26-year-old performing arts grad nabbed the title wearing a Tony Bowls ensemble on the coronation night.

This is Sahar’s second time to join the Miss Canada Universe pageant. She first joined in 2008, when she won 1st runner up and then entered the Miss Tourism Queen pageant in China on the same year.

Sahar’s winning outfit, the 112C36, is a one shoulder gown by Tony Bowls. The chiffon dress, embellished with colored beads and crystals, also has a sweetheart neckline as a key feature.

Now is definitely the exotic beauty’s time to shine! She will be representing Canada at the Miss Universe 2012 pageant, to be held in mid-December.

2012 Cannes Film Festival Style Match

20120520-banner

The 2012 Cannes Film Festival has already officially started on May 16 and will carry on till the 27th of May.  While the main focus of the event is to preview new films of all genres,  discover new talents, and award the most deserving, that’s not all there is to it.

The Cannes Film Festival is considered to be one of the biggest red carpet events of the year, and usually when we hear or see the words “red carpet” what immediately comes to mind are the gorgeous female celebrities garbed in the most fabulous dresses that we, mere mortals, can only dream of owning.

But it’s not entirely impossible, you know?  MissesDressy is sure to have similar dresses in stock that won’t require you to dig elbow-deep in your pockets or even break the bank. With that said, here are some style matches you can peruse to help you achieve your coveted 2012 Cannes Film Festival look

Emulate jury member Diane Kruger’s flowy, asymmetrical Giambattista Vali couture dress with a Tarik Ediz 91868 dress.

Love this classy look Eva Longoria pulled off with her Alberta Ferretti lace dress for the opening night dinner? Then I’m sure you’ll also love the Tadashi 6T1002L dress!

Who says classy and sexy don’t mix? Not Freida Pinto that’s for sure! And to prove the naysayers wrong, she wore a dress with diaphanous sleeves and a thigh high slit by Versace. For those who can’t afford Versace (*cough*likeme*cough*), a similar style by Alberto Makali (182499) is available at MissesDressy.com.

How about wearing something similar to the Jason Wu dress Shaileen Woodley wore when she received her Trophee Chopard award from none other than Sean Penn? The Jovani 4512 is a perfect match. Maybe you can even win an award yourself; how about Best Dressed?

Want the luxurious Marchesa gown Eva Longoria wore at the opening ceremony for the 2012 Cannes film festival, but with a little less fluff and train? The Mac Duggal 78359D is probably what you’re looking for!

Since the Cannes film festival will continue till the 27th of May, feel free to check out our Facebook album for more style matches which will be updated till the last of the gorgeous female celebrities, with their stunning gowns, have walked the red carpet.

Print Dress Style Guide

Whether you are attending prom, homecoming, a wedding, or whatever gala you have been invited to, a print dress will definitely give you better chances of standing out since majority of women usually opt for dresses with solid colors. Be a vision in floral with this Alyce Designs 6741 dress.

…Or ace the glamorous look in this Mikael Aghal 262281  earth tone print dress.

2012 Met Gala Red Carpet Looks, Matched! (Part Two)

featuredimage2

As promised, here’s the second installment of our celeb style matches from the recent Met Gala:

Camilla Belle sure showed us that evening that she has grown into a sophisticated young lady with her sheer/nude Ralph Lauren ensemble.  The deep V-neck and the slender silhouette of her dress spell sexy sophisticate! The 9511 Dress by Primavera Couture possesses the same appeal with its deep neckline and sheer details along the chest area.  This sequin dress also has a nice slim silhouette, perfect to show off your figure with! (Style tip: try wearing shape wear underneath this dress for a flawless figure.)

Michelle Dockery impressed fashionistas with her Ralph Lauren outfit at this year’s Met Gala, with the stylish simplicity of her dress.  The mix of metallics and a rich black fabric along the skirt give the dress that traditional-meets-trendy look. Like the mix? Try La Femme 17612 by Gigi By La Femme.  Just like Michelle’s dress, it has an embellished top and a rich black skirt.

Another lady in red, Chelsea Clinton wowed the crowed in her bright red Oscar de la Renta lace gown.  Barely wearing any jewelry, many loved the former First Daughter’s outfit, as her dress is a vision on its own. Thanks to Chelsea (and of course, Oscar de la Renta), we now know that red lace isn’t just for tacky lingerie–it can actually be very chic! Want to play the lady in red too? The perfect dress just for that is the Jovani 158470 Dress by Jovani Mother Of The Bride. This strapless lace gown is sure to unleash your sexy chic at any event!

Hot momma Jessica Alba sashayed on the red carpet in a majestic metallic gold dress by Michael Kors. The one-shoulder stunner has got fans and fashionistas applauding Ms. Alba’s exquisite taste in red carpet outfits. Glitter and glow just like Jess with the 18272 Dress by Feriani. This one shoulder gown has that same metallic gold fabric as Jessica’s Michael Kors dress.

Top model Giselle Bundchen (pictured here with hubby Tom Brady) went to the Met Gala in a black figure-hugging Givenchy dress. What’s to love about her outfit? Well, it’s black, but it ain’t boring. The intricate details on this dress remind us that black is still the quintessential color for formal dresses. If sultry black is your color choice for your next event, be inspired by Giselle’s look with the 2054 Dress by Alyce Claudine Collection. This lace and tulle dress may be a daring choice, but it will surely be an absolute head-turner–just wear with with enough confidence!

Top 10 Red Carpet Looks 2012

2012red1

2012 has been a great year for fashion! The Red Carpet was nothing short of jaw dropping throughout the awards season and the Met Ball topped off our love affair with all things red carpet. Take a look at our Top 10 red Carpet Looks of 2012 so far below. What do you think? Do you agree? Or did you have some other favorites?

Personally I’m devastated that Emma Stone has not made this list, but I guess sometimes it’s better to be talked about in moderation for a great sense of style rather than stealing the headlines for all the wrong reasons (Fergie and Nicki Minaj I’m looking at you!) Some other favorites are Angelina Jolie’s Golden Globe’s dress (Faviana look-a-like available at MissesDressy), Charlize Theron’s trend setting hi-lo Golden Globes look (Faviana look-a-like available at MissesDressy) and of course Octavia Spencer’s Oscars stunner by Tadashi Shoji (available at MissesDressy)
