Dresses Fit for a Goddess

greekgoddesfi

Whenever someone pictures ancient Greece or Rome, the first thing that comes to mind is usually the goddesses and their beautiful, simple, and elegant dresses. If one were to walk around in such dresses during modern times, they would probably look like a walking Halloween decoration. Wearing the original style dresses may be a little wacky, but the styles can always be adapted and integrated with current styled dresses! The dresses of the goddesses are usually white/ivory flowing dresses accented with gold. The silhouette is typically one-shouldered or cut with a v-neckline.

Tarik Ediz 92019 is an ivory one shoulder dress that imitates the toga silhouette. It also has an additional gold belt and gold decor at the shoulder.

What makes La Femme 16017 sexy is the v-neck cut, the side cutouts, the slit, and the low back. Look spectacular as a modern Greek goddess.

Jovani 5406 is also a dress with a toga silhouette and a gold shoulder embellishment. The short dress is perfect for a small party.

Mignon VM570 is a relaxed looking v-neck dress. Wear this to an event, where you don’t want to look too flashy and fancy, but still look appropriately dressed.

Terani GL1001 is the key to elegance— the flowing skirt, the mini train, and the metal appliques.

Terani GL351 is a bit more bold in design. A woven pattern sits directly underneath the v-neckline and at the waistline.

I personally like wearing black a lot as black does often make you look slimmer, and there are loads of different shades of black.  I’ve put together some black dresses long and short we have at MissesDressy and they are all beautiful, plain, sequined and embellished there’s a few above to give you a sneak peak.  I know it’s the summer and it’s time for the bright colors but I believe not everybody likes wearing pink, yellow, all those bright colored dresses, so that’s why I’ve made this post.  There were too many gorgeous black dresses to choose from, I couldn’t even make up my mind which ones to put on the blog, so I picked out a few of my favorites.  One of my favorite short ones are Alyce Designs 5461 and my favorite long black dress is Terani E1345.  Which ones are your favorites?

Mermaid-mermaids-8892712-1000-750

Have you ever wished you were a mermaid— elegant, graceful, and mysterious all at the same time? Although you can’t magically transform into one, you can always feel like one! Mermaid dresses available at MissesDressy translate the attributes of a mermaid into dresses. Mermaid dresses hug the curves throughout the body and are made to show off curves; the dress flares out at the knees, creating more curves and making the skirt look like a tail. The following dresses demonstrate the mermaid look with embellished bodices with metallic, scale-like textures. They also range from from high closed necklines to sweetheart necklines, and from strap to strapless.

Aliens, spaceships, and the galaxy— there’s a style for everything. Futuristic and retro looks are a style that can’t possibly be outdated. Metallic, sleek, sharp edges, and puffed shoulder all are what define a futuristic dress. The following dresses include puffed sleeves for shoulder broadening and added embellishments for a metallic look. Sharp edges of the dress gives the wearer of the dress an edgy attitude and look. You can take this look from the runaway, to an elegant party, or even to a business meeting!

Gothic Style Resurrects for Fall 2012

Salvatore Ferragamo Fall 2012

To quote fashionising.com, “If you think black is boring, think again. Fall 2012 brings all things dark out of the shadows with a neo-Gothic twist. Channeling the love of dark fairytales that’s dominating the zeitgeist, clothes as dark as night can make you fade into the background or stand out more than ever – it’s just up to your imagination.”

Black is back with a vengeance, because it doesn’t only show up in the simple-silhouetted LBD’s, but for Fall 2012, it emerges in striking magnificence: Gothic. Just check out the top designers’ take on the trend:

Alexander McQueen | Pre-Fall 2012

Versace | Fall 2012

Givenchy Haute Couture | Fall 2012

Gucci | Fall 2012

The trick to getting on the trend is choosing black pieces with rich materials and interesting textures like velvet and leather. Layer or combine sheer pieces with embellished accents. Insert a deep luxurious color too to break-up the black.

Pucci and Givenchy | Fall 2012

It’s all so exciting, so go ahead and try it. To help you pull it off, allow us to present some goth-inspired dresses by two more top designers, Jovani and Alyce Black Label. These vamp dresses are available at MissesDressy.com.

A Bride’s Guide to Rehearsal Dinner Attire

Artwork by MyExpression

Just when you think you have everything covered for your wedding, you suddenly remember that you also need a smashing look for the rehearsal dinner.

How you will look in the rehearsal dinner is relatively as important as how you will look on the wedding day itself. It’s at the rehearsal dinner that you will probably first meet your groom’s whole family. And it’s where you will be seeing some of your dearest friends after a long time. Thus, the dilemma of choosing a dress that would allow you to make the best first impression.

But, never fear, we have here a few tips for you to consider in deciding on what to wear:

1. Consider the Type of Party. Is the dinner your having a BBQ or sit-down, casual or formal, large or intimate, indoors or outdoors? The venue will more or less set the tone of the party. You must then dress accordingly. Wear a simple sundress for an outdoor BBQ and an embellished cocktail dress for an indoor formal sit-down dinner.

2. Express Yourself. The rehearsal dinner is your chance to express a different side of you. Showcase your dynamic personality by veering away from the look and feel of your wedding dress. If your wedding dress is traditional, get a contemporary looking rehearsal dinner dress. If your wedding dress is long-sleeved with a high neckline, go for a rehearsal dress that is more revealing.

3. To Be or Not To Be — Trendy. It’s all good if you want to be in that hot new fashion, but beware of being too trendy or, you’ll most probably laugh at the rehearsal dinner pictures years later. You can balance out the look by toning down the trend with classic accents. Like, if you want the glamorous glitter material, do the classic pencil cut dress. To help you further, consider below dresses by the smashing brand Terani Couture. These dresses are available at MissesDressy.com. We believe that these are just the right balance of trendy and classic. With these, you can’t go wrong.

4. Color Me Bad. The special occasion is for you (and your groom), therefore you should allow yourself to shine. Stay away from the LBD’s for the meantime. If you are daring, wear red or some formal bright color. But if you want to be subtle, stick to pastels or grey. Do this, else you will blend in with the crowd.

5. Comfort First. You can be bold and daring, but do it tastefully. Remember, if your dress makes it uncomfortable to move, then it’s probably not a proper attire. Make sure that your neckline is not too low, that your hemline is not too short, and the fit is not too tight. Your dress must allow you to mingle and even dance.

After making so many choices for the wedding, you may find yourself dumbfounded to make yet another decision especially when there are countless options. We hope then, that these tips help you. Just keep in mind that the no. 1 rule is that you must look better and more special than anyone else, being the host and celebrant. Allow yourself to be a star in your rehearsal dinner as much as in your wedding. The only thing you will have to bother with is enjoying the moments with your love.
