Hair How-To: The Faux Bob

leighton-meester-marie-claire-03

Are you bored with the usual updo but aren’t ready to cut your tresses short? Well, fret no more because the fake bob is here…and it’s pretty easy to do!

The fake bob (a.k.a. the ‘faux bob’) is one of the hottest hair trends this year for its classy and romantic feel. We’ve seen it on the runway and our favorite celebs have been seen sporting the hairstyle, so it’s about time that we try it out ourselves!

Follow these simple steps to get achieve this hair trend:

Step 1: Apply volumizing spray on to the roots of your damp hair. Once you’ve covered the roots, blow dry your hair using a brush.

Step 2: Once hair is completely dry, create loose curls using your curling iron. Since you’re aiming for volume, curl 1″-2″ sections of your hair to make more curls.

Step 3: Part your hair to one side or at the center and then tie your hair into a low ponytail. Be sure not to tie your hair too tightly!

Step 4: Take your ponytail and roll it towards the back of your head. Tuck the end of your ponytail using hairpins.

Step 5: Set hair with hair spray and voila! You’re ready to go!

Graphic Prints

street-style-floralprint-jackets-4-1

Have you been rocking some sort of graphic printed top, trousers or skirt because it’s rather big right now.  Again it’s seen all over the streets during Fashion week.  Givenchy, Kenzo and many other designers are all about graphic printed sweaters and T-shirts at the moment for example like the Givenchy shark printed T-shirt you see most bloggers wearing.  Playing with prints is super fun because you have a choice of matching print on print, keeping it simple by just matching it with something plain and just concentrate on one graphic printed garment, mixing prints by wearing different prints together or add some statement accessories like a necklace, statement earrings it’s totally up to you on what you want to do.

If you’re thinking I  just want to keep it simple and casual then you can just simply wear a printed tee with jeans, flats and a cute statement necklace and maybe adding a black blazer would be cool too.

Homecoming Hair & Makeup Ideas

Homecoming-Hair-and-Makeup-Ideas

When dressing up for a special event such as your homecoming or prom, a beautiful dress alone will not necessarily complete the overall look you want. You have to have the shoes that goes perfectly well with the dress, the right accessories/jewelries to complement the outfit, and of course, the appropriate hair and makeup; It’s like a coalition (a fashion/style coalition, if you will), with all these covered, only then will you achieve the look you are going for.

Since this article/post is about homecoming hair and makeup ideas, let us assume that you already have in your possession your ideal dress, the shoes to go with it, and accessories/jewelries to complement both the dress and shoes; all you need now are a couple of ideas for your hair and makeup to complete your homecoming look.

Below are just a couple of hair and makeup looks and some advice on which cosmetics or tools best to use and the type of dresses that would go perfectly well with each hair and makeup looks. Best of luck to you and I hope you find this post useful.

This look is perfect for girls with short to medium length hair. The beachy hair and bold eyeshadows give the whole look a carefree vibe. All you have to do is curl your hair with a curling iron and afterwards, comb your fingers through your hair so the curls don’t look too perfect. Don’t forget to line below your lower lash line with the same blue eyeshadow you used on your lids.

Be a bit more daring with your choice of lip color. A swipe of bright red-orange lippy is enough to add statement to your overall look. A bright red-orange lip gives off the message that you are confident and fashion forward. To be on the safe side, keep your eye makeup light. 2 coats of mascara and a dark eyeliner would be enough.

Types of dresses that look good with this look:

Jovani 5320 ; Faviana S7015 ; Shail K. KK3143

If you want something a bit more elegant, you can go with Taylor Swift’s hair and makeup (as seen in the photo above). Pull your hair back and tie it into a chignon at the nape of your neck, only a little more to one side than the usual middle to add a twist to this classic look. A swipe of red lipstick and create a smoky eye with copper or gold tone eyeshadow so as not to go too heavy on the makeup. False lashes are optional although it does make your eyes look even more dramatic and would be a nice additional touch to the red lips. Apply a coat of mascara or two after applying your faux lashes.

Faviana S7007 ; Jovani 5605 ; Terani H1214

Now for a more romantic look, a messy updo is the way to do it. Pull your hair back into a chignon, leaving some parts down the way Ashley Greene (or her hair stylist) did in the photo above. Keep it light with the makeup. A bright lipstick, light eyeshadow, eyeliner and 2 coats of mascara are enough to complete the romantic look. Oooh! Don’t forget the blush! Hold your blush brush lightly as you apply blush on your cheeks for a more natural look.

X-Ray Vision: Skeleton Fashion

featured

French photographer Pauline Darley illustrates the beautiful ease of the female anatomy in Ever Magazine spread, “She Has Waited Too Long”. Highlighting the curve of a woman’s neck, arch in her back, or the structure behind her smile the images simulate an X-Ray view of model Clementine Levy. At first glance the photos appear to be a bit spooky, but after viewing the entire collection there seems to be an interesting play on fashion and beauty taking place. Perhaps what’s on the inside truly does matter?

Makeup artist Mademoiselle Mu fantastically brings the skeletal idea to life. Intensity behind the images is both haunting and delicate in a weird sort of way. Speaking to the thin stigma in fashion, global beauty standards, or simply a visual masterpiece there is a lot to be taken away from the spread. Even a little costume inspiration for the fast approaching Halloween

Though sometimes hidden, skeleton-inspired looks pop-up every now and then throughout high fashion.World renowned designer Marchesa offered an interesting interpretation of her own in recent Fall 2012 RTW collection.

Large Sleeves, Chunky Heels, & Strange Headpieces in Paris FW

feature

So far we’ve spotted more than a few memorable looks during Paris Fashion Week. A trend throughout seems to be fresh, young, easy clothing in ready-to-wear-collections. We’ve also noticed a few recurring details such as enlarged sleeves, thick heels, cut-outs, collars, and super unique (to say the least) accessories. The collections are perhaps less overt in comparison to London Fashion Week, but they certainly didn’t skim us on design. Take a look at a few of our favorite lines.

Balenciaga RTW S/S 2013

Balenciaga is the breath of fresh air that represents spring paired with the playful fun of it. Peek-a-boo midriffs, the mix of curves and sharp angles along with light but beautifully crafted accessories make the collection extremely refined and smart. It’s the unintentionally cool collection. And obviously made with me in mind.

Carven RTW S/S 2013

This collection is a prime example of how to go to the edge and not fall off. Just enough femininity and sex appeal with just enough attention to detail make for an assortment of bold, classic staples. Nearly each look made me wonder why it wasn’t already sitting in my closet.

Rochas RTW S/S 2013

Drama. Classic drama. And I’m not completely sure what to call the over-sized head wrap/band/blindfold pieces, but they do add a certain interest. The Rochas collection is a modern take on 1950′s fashion, and I have no qualms with that.

Streetstyle: Details

2e926673c0173809ff86239663f38c7a

Street style alert!  Check out those details from every outfit, the accessories, colors, prints, shoes and arm swag, just that little bit can bring out the pop from the whole outfit.  Even if the outfit was originally really plain and boring but just by adding on that little detail like a printed jacket, a bright colored top, a statement necklace or even those super high heels can make your total look brighten up in seconds.

I personally think it’s really important to pay attention to the detailing when it comes to building up an outfit, maybe pick out one specific thing you would like to stand out and dress around that.  Like a printed top for example of course you would want that to be the centre of attention maybe so you would want everything else to be plain, like a plain black skirt or jeans but you could add a chunky statement necklace too…just to add a little more to make things look more cool!

Are you rocking the armswag trend because I am and it’s one of the timeless trends I’m loving right now.  It’s super fun to have all those bright colored bracelets on your wrists and maybe a it of bling too, wear them with your watch (only that’s if you like wearing a watch).

Shoesday Tuesday: Are Clogs Back In?

featured

To quote the witty Heidi Klum, “one day you’re in and the next day you’re out!” Aside from being a cliche phrase, we can’t deny that in the world of fashion it’s absolutely true. What’s on trend one minute (like sapphire, ox-blood, or grey looks) is a complete taboo the next. We all remember Spring 2010 when clogs suddenly became the go-to shoe and just as quickly were being snatched from our feet by the fashion police! Much to my dismay, they went out almost as fast they stormed in. Apparently the stylishly inclined weren’t won over by the easy breezy, comfy little treats for long. Sure they’re not the sexiest shoe in town but we’ve seen how clogs can be made fabulous. I have a near and dear pair of my own and it would be nice to strut around in them without the fear of being slapped with a citation. For all the cloggers out there, our single wish may be a reality because word on the runway is the “cult classic” of footwear is back on trend. Could this be too good to be true?

Not only have clogs been spotted in S/S 2013 collections, but they’ve been all the buzz as fall must-wears and some of our favorite celebs have been seen wearing them. The “official” verdict has yet to be rendered on whether or not the underdogs are in fact “back”, but I’m giving myself permission to go nuts! Take a look at some of our favorite clog looks.

Celebrities in Clogs

Ashlee Simpson

Kate Beckinsale | She’s obviously a clogger at heart, as we’ve spotted her more than a few times sporting the shoe (and the same pair.. see celebs rerun, too!)

Miley Cyrus

(Sidenote: Don’t you miss her long locks? Just a tad?)

Mollie King | Absolutely love her camel, peep-toe clogs but clearly walking in them in a challenge.

Nicole Richie

Rachel Bilson | We’re crowning her clog queen! She wears them all over the place and always looks super cute.

Alexa Chung | Clogs are also one of her faves and doesn’t everything Alexa say, go?

The facts are here, fashionistas! Whether or not the trend sticks, feel free to wear your clogs proudly. We certainly will.

On the Streets: Bountiful Prints vs Posh Blocks

Nykhor Paul in Bullet Magazine

The printed and color blocking styles have been the long-standing contenders… uh, we mean — trends, so far. We see that prints are evolving to either bolder or more cheery patterns. While, color blocking has been elevated to becoming the style strength and sometimes inspiration for a design. Check-out as these trends go back-to-back in the London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013, as reported by Frills and Thrills.

Bountiful Prints:

Peter Pilotto | Geometric prints zigzagged in abundance on this runway, at times even mismatched. Funky, right?

Micheal van der Ham | Art-inspired prints were layered in muted+sunshiny colors. This is what we call balance.

Erdem | Citrus, neon, and pastels made up the kaleidoscopic florals. You’ll surely get yourself some admiring attention if you’d walk on the streets in these.

Celebrity Sightings for Bountiful Prints | Poppy Delevingne, Kim Kardashian, Christa Allen, and Hailee Steinfeld made street-wear look high-fashion with abstract prints.

Posh Blocks:

Roksanda Ilincic | The play on color blocks gave these pieces their story, sometimes even seeming like geometric patterns if looked at as a whole. But the clean lines and simplistic combinations made these designs perfect for posh stylistas.

Burberry Prorsum | Jewel and berry colors made-up this parade. The satin and silk materials helped in making the powerful statement because of their luster effect.

Paul Smith | Color-blocking with manly spice makes this runway an awesome evolution of the trend. Clean-cut masculine tailoring and paneled colors were mixed in with some lace and chiffon to give color-blocking a new taste.

Celebrity Sightings for Posh Blocks | Alexa Chung, MissesDressy.com favourites Emma Stone, Olivia Palermo, and Diane Kruger looked modish and fresh in structured bright color-blocks.

We dare you to try-out these trends. Check-out MissesDressy.com for dresses in bountiful prints and posh blocks.

Go Big and Bold: Fall Jewelry Style Tips

featured1

As we all know, piecing together the perfect ensemble is only half the battle. Accessorizing with jewelry helps complete a total look. During the fall it’s especially fun to mix and match jewelry, as they can give an already layered outfit extra drama and spruce up the average fall color palette. Check out our top three jewelry style tips to keep in mind during shopping this season!

Keep it Colorful

Autumn is the season of rich, vibrant colors even if only present in your jewelry. When wearing monochromatic tones try to add a jewelry piece that will brighten up your look. Use accessories as a way to create contrast. Or even if your outfit includes color variety, bright jewelry can help play them up. Don’t be afraid to throw on those sapphire earrings with that orange sweater! Color coordination is the hidden key to fall fashion.

Try Stackable Pieces

We’ve been seeing a lot of stacked jewelry from bangle sets to rings. This style is not only a way to pile on some of your favorite pieces all at once, but it makes for a cool look when wearing a long sleeve or jacket. Going along with the idea of creating drama with jewelry, stacking your accessories adds a touch of volume and flair.
