Spring 2013‘s hot new trend proves to be quite a surprise as it celebrates the contrast between black and white instead of colorful pastels. As seen in the runways of Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, and Jil Sander, black and white pieces reign supreme above Easter-egg hues that most of us associate with the season.

Red Carpet Recap: 2013 Golden Globe Awards

golden-globe-awards-690x363

The biggest stars in film and television came out in their finest last Sunday, January 13th in Beverly Hills to attend one of the year’s most-awaited events, the 70th Golden Globe Awards. The ladies dominated the show, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as hosts and Jodie Foster as this year’s recipient of the Cecil B. Demille award for a lifetime of cinematic achievement. Of course, the red carpet was also dominated by gorgeous women and fashion as they paraded in their finest frocks in celebration of the evening.

Red carpet looks generally exuded an elegance that can only be achieved in simplicity. Although some may argue that too much simplicity could border on the boring, I must say that– thankfully– no one opted to shock viewers with an outlandish look this year. It’s also interesting to note that the better outfits revolved around 3 hues: black, beige/white, and red.

With no further ado, here are the trends we spotted on the glamorous Golden Globes red carpet. Be the judge and tell us whose looks you liked best!

February Cover Girls: Jennifer Lopez and Ke$ha

Desktop2

International sensation Jennifer Lopez and music’s new bad gal Ke$ha grace the February 2013 covers of two top magazines: Harper’s Bazaar and Seventeen, respectively. Each had a very different theme in their covers–J.Lo plays a glam gladiator while Ke$ha kept it cute and cuddly–but both opened up in their interviews.

The ‘Die Young’ singer candidly answered Seventeen’s questions in her interview, which tackled topics from her personal style to her present “haters”. She also spoke about bullying, an issue that many young people face today:

“I’m all about standing up to gay/lesbian/transgender bullying, but it’s also about my little brother. He’s 13 and he gets made fun of because he has a stutter. I just have zero tolerance for people making fun of others.”

With Harper’s Bazaar, Jennifer Lopez opened up about her private life, the one thing she has struggled to protect since she hit global superstardom. She also talked about her current boyfriend, Casper Smart, and balancing work with motherhood. The 43-year-old mother of two seems to have it all and she does it all:

“I’m a singer. I’m a dancer. I’m a performer. I’m an actress.”

Downton Abbey Goes Flapper in Season 3

Wallpaper-downton-abbey-32428606-1920-1080

As everyone’s favorite TV hit, PBS’ period masterpiece Downton Abbey moves on to its 3rd season– and its fashion evolves along. While the 2 previous seasons showcased Edwardian-era designs, the latest season (which premiered just yesterday) opens in the roaring ’20s, an era known for its most important contribution to fashion: the flapper style. As more mysteries unfold in the hit series, expect to see a lot of fantastic flapper looks as well.

The Crawley girls of Downton Abbey: Jessica Brown-Findlay, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery

Shirley Maclaine, an exciting new addition to the hit series' wonderful cast

Season 3 opened with Lady Mary’s wedding that featured a haunting and romantic gown any vintage fashion fan (like myself) would fall head-over-heels for:

Take a look at some of the best flapper- and vintage-inspired dresses we’ve got in our own collection:

Modern Military: This Trend Wants YOU

Desktop-002

Before 2012 ended, there were a number of exciting new trends that came out, one of which is the modern military look. This masculine-inspired trend is versatile, having pieces that fit the cold seasons (coats and boots) as well as the warmer ones (flowy shirts).

Kate Winslet On The Red Carpet

Desktop1-001

With recent reports confirming that the British actress has tied the knot (for the 3rd time now) earlier this month with Ned Rocknroll (what a cool name!), we cannot help but wonder what Kate Winslet wore to the super-secret ceremony.

As we try to guess what the voluptuous star’s wedding dress was, maybe a little walk down red carpet memory lane would help! Below are my personal picks of Kate Winslet‘s red carpet looks through the years:

In the 1998 Oscars, wearing Alexander McQueen for Givenchy

Kate broke into Hollywood stardom with the smashing success of Titanic, the film that had also launched her co-star (and close friend) Leonardo DiCaprio‘s shot to fame. While many didn’t find her look remarkable (some even found it scary–eeks!) at the 1998 Oscars, Kate has still managed to keep her star rising, as we all can see now.

2002, in Ben de Lisi

2005, in Badgley Mischka

Sticking to classic evening gown designs, Kate exudes that old Hollywood glamour only a few celebrities can successfully pull off on the red carpet. Her dress choices revolve around one shoulder, mermaid-cut, and strapless gowns because these designs perfectly complement her enviable hour-glass body.

2007, in Valentino

2008, at the Revolutionary Road world premiere

2009, at the 81st Academy Awards

2010, at the Orange British Academy Film Awards

2011, at the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards

2012, (left to right) at the Titanic 3D premiere, 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards, 37th Annual Cesar Awards
