Designer In Focus: Eva Franco

eva-franco-1

Born and raised in Romania, Eva Franco discovered her passion for fashion when she emigrated to the United States as a young girl. A graduate of the prestigious New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, Eva pursued her passion further by going to Paris where she worked as a design assistant for Etienne Brunel.

Aside from learning the basics of fashion in school, Eva obtained more in-depth design knowledge from her female customers at her “shop” in a local flea market. From them she learned what women really want in clothes as well as what will look perfect on the “real” feminine form.

According to CakeStyle.com, Eva Franco dresses are now available in 800 stores, both international and domestic (that includes us, MissesDressy.com!). All her designs are on-trend but classy, fun and feminine. Her creations are proudly made in the USA.

As she is currently our featured designer, here are some of Eva’s finest creations we’ve got in store here at MissesDressy.com. See the rest of our collection, click here.

Meet the Designer: Don O’Neill of THEIA

THEIA Creative Director/Designer Don O'Neill

For what we learn about him, as he reveals more about himself through his network in the industry and of course, through his genius, we have developed fondness and respect for Don O’Neill, creator and designer of the THEIA label. His designs speak so much of his meticulousness, clearly showing his great love for fashion. His friends and colleagues speak praises of his character and talent. We particularly love how he was described by “style artist” Viktorija Bowers in her blog:

From the moment I met him he permeated by warmth and love that is sometimes lacking in our industry. No matter how hectic it got, no matter how many people had opinion around him, no matter the fact that this is the most important show of his life, his very first, this man wore grace and kindness like most beautiful crown. That is why, his success, his talent and beauty he creates is extra special. Because it is happening to truly good person and it gives you re assurance that you can be successful artist without loosing your beautiful compassionate humanity.

From what we’ve learned, Don O’Neill began his career by studying at the Barbara Burke College of Fashion Design in Dublin. A few fulfilling London apprenticeship after, he bagged the Design Director position for the Carmen Marc Valvo label; then went on to launching an evening wear collection for Badgely Mischka. In 2009, he founded his own fashion brand, THEIA –named after the Greek goddess of light– birthed by his “vision to bring out every woman’s inner goddess“. [Read his full story here.]

His designs for his own label had been worn by country superstars Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift; and, had been featured in notable media outlets like “People Magazine, Life and Style, Us Weekly, E! News, InStyle.com, Glamour.com, and more“. One of his most recent career milestones was when he was asked to make a dress for none other than Oprah. According to reports, the media mogul wore one of his dresses for the cover of O magazine September 2011 issue, and loved the dress so much that she asked to have a similar dress made for her attendance in the 2012 Oscars. The dress was appropriately in gold, made up of millions of sequins on a stretch fabric.

Below are a few more of Don O’Neill’s magnificent designs. Do head on to MissesDressy.com if you want to get a hold of one of them. Happy shopping!

Shoesday Tuesday: Taylor Swift’s New Kicks

FEATURED

When Taylor Swift claims a color, she sticks to it.

Right before the holidays and in the wake of her hit new album Red, the Grammy Award winning singer and keen fashionista has joined the ranks of celebs turned designer. We were apprehensive at first, but the limited edition Taylor Swift “RED” Keds are the perfect addition to her young and fresh image. And at a cool $50 we know exactly what all of her fans will be begging for this Christmas season. Of her new partnership Swift said, “I’ve been a fan of Keds® for years because they have two of my favorite elements of great style – they’re classic and effortless.”

We must agree. And according to Examiner there will be more goodies coming from this new collabo in the future. We wonder what Taylor’s next shoe will look like– or what color it’ll be.

Taylor Swifts “RED” Keds are available now at Keds.com and TaylorSwift.com, now!

Weigh in: Will you be buying these hot new kicks?

Of Bridal Fascinators, Veils, and Headpieces: Twigs and Honey Feature

Myra Callan

We chanced upon Twigs & Honey in one of our favourite wedding websites.  And, to make the long story short, let’s just say, we fell in love.

Twigs & Honey, a Salem-Portland, Oregon based company, has for its founder and designer a former bride with an M.A. in Geography-Environmental Science, Myra Callan. Though not an obvious career path for a scientist, Myra Callan ventured into bridal fashion when she got so inspired with it while planning her own wedding in 2007. She’s still able to use her education though as she “experiments” with colors, forms, and textures to come up with her now famous brand of  hair adornment perfection.

Myra Callan’s Twigs & Honey creations are made with love. Each piece is painstakingly made by hand, with “full attention to details and an interest in fine craftsmanship”. The line includes hair adornments, headbands, birdcage veils, traditional veils, and other wedding accessories. The brand’s trademark is the use of “fine silks, feathers, laces, and vintage bits that result in completely unique adornments”. This brand has been featured in various top bridal magazines and notable TV shows, which just proves how much it has made a lovable impact on the industry. So, without further ado, here are some of this designer line’s best pieces.

Did You See Khloe Kardashian in Mac Duggal?

featured

Since her new gig as X-Factor co-host to Mario Lopez, we’ve seen Khloe Kardashian working it outfit after outfit! As a third of the Kardashian Kollection brand and reality TV trio, she some how found time for the competition singing show. Hopefully she sticks around for a little while…

On this weeks episode we spotted Khloe wearing Misses Dressy designer, Mac Duggal! We know the brand is fabulous, but gee that little number really sparkled on stage. The gold sequined short dress fit her like a (Michael Jackson) glove! Paired with simple styling, sleek hair and makeup, Mrs. Odom definitely nailed it with this one. Get the look by snagging the Mac Duggal dress for yourself at MissesDressy!

Project Runway Winner Anya Ayoung Chee’s S/S 2013 Collection

featured

Remember Anya Ayoung Chee from Project Runway Season 9? You know, the Trinidad native that had only four months of sewing experience prior to entering the competition, yet came out on top as the winner? Well since the season ended last year she has been hard at work doing what she does best and conjuring up quite a bit of buzz around her new Spring/Summer collection.

Making her rounds at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week events across the globe Anya showed her “Carnival of Color” SS ’13 collection in both New York City and Cape Town. Filled with bold prints, vibrant colors, and flowy fabrics the line was much like the mix of clean and whimsical pieces we all grew fond of during her season of Project Runway. And with a self described “sexy, easy, and island” aesthetic, we expected nothing less from the 29 year-old former beauty queen. Not to mention the collection featured a number of wearable looks that any woman would love to own– particularly the v-neck romper and cobalt blue blazer. She can send those over to us, actually.

Kardashian Kollection for Dorothy Perkins Lookbook

featured

Just in time for the holiday season Kardashian Kollection for Dorothy Perkins is set to debut in stores and online tomorrow. After browsing the lookbook we must say its typical Kardashian fashion– one dimensional. Filled with blazers, blouses, and bodycon dresses in just about every style and color, the line (featuring over 100 pieces) definitely reflects the style of reality TV trio Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney Kardashian. Sadly we had an inkling of hope as fashion partnerships usually present an opportunity for aesthetic growth, but “Que Sera”. The main positive we found was that the clothing is reasonably priced. Apparently you can look like a Kardashian for around $100.

Check out the collection– er, Kollection– and take a look at a behind the scenes video of the LA shoot.

Hauntingly Romantic: Haute Couture by Samuel Cirnansck

Samuel Cirnansck

Looking elegantly fragile and sweetly forlorn as they sat on the swings, ladies in white, nude, and black flowy fabric made up the runway for the Samuel Cirnansck Summer 2013 collection. The models, styled with loose locks and almost pale make-up, floated through the runway afterwards to showcase the lightweight ultrafeminine dresses by the Brazilian designer.

The dresses, which were said to be made 90% by hand, had a ghostly quality being mostly light and sheer in the bottom. Tulle was pleated and layered to create the hauntingly floating illusion. The dresses’ bodice were also generally see-through, strategically embellished with loads of pearls, florets, lace, and/or beads.

Disturbingly dark and romantic, these dresses would remind you of a midnight in Paris or the Goth ages; We here at MissesDressy.com were left spellbound. We’re sure you’d be too as you look at some of our picks from the runway show.
