Go Green: Emerald Announced as the 2013 Color of the Year

featured

Pantone Color Institute® recently introduced 2013′s Color of the Year… *drum roll*… Emerald 17-5641! We can’t necessary say we saw this coming, as the radiant hue comes on the coat tales of 2012′s go-to color, Tangerine Tango. None the less as an earth tone and natural “feel good” color, I see 2013 being a year in which my endless list of resolutions may come to fruition. Finding my core and inner chi was a topper and with soul soothing emerald’s lingering about that may not be a far stretch.

“The most abundant hue in nature, the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum. As it has throughout history, multifaceted Emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate. Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world. This powerful and universally-appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.”

- Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®

We’re anticipating a year of much needed chromotherapy. Check out ahead of the curve emerald looks from Spring 2013 runway shows, along with cosmetics that will help you get the look!

In Case You Missed It: Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2013 (Video)

featured

If you’re like some of us, you probably logged off of your computer just a hair too early Monday night and missed Oscar de la Renta’s Pre-Fall 2013 runway show! If you’re also like some of us, you’re kicking yourself. But no worries, not only do we have the collection of looks, we also found the runway show in its entirety (oh, bless you Youtube).

After taking a look at the collection, we quickly fell in love with the designers assortment of structured pieces and whimsical pastel colors. Almost every woman’s style is somewhere hidden inside this line– from the high powered fashion moguls headed to a super important meeting, to the artists on the rise in need of a style savvy outfit for their next gallery exhibition. The gamut of stylish go-to girls is encompassed in this fun, fresh collection. If we could just get our hands on those printed high-waisted pants, or that green crocheted cardigan we too could be suited in fabulous Oscar de la Renta style… and life would be complete.

Take a look at the collection along with the full runway show!

Designer In Focus: Eva Franco

eva-franco-1

Born and raised in Romania, Eva Franco discovered her passion for fashion when she emigrated to the United States as a young girl. A graduate of the prestigious New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, Eva pursued her passion further by going to Paris where she worked as a design assistant for Etienne Brunel.

Aside from learning the basics of fashion in school, Eva obtained more in-depth design knowledge from her female customers at her “shop” in a local flea market. From them she learned what women really want in clothes as well as what will look perfect on the “real” feminine form.

According to CakeStyle.com, Eva Franco dresses are now available in 800 stores, both international and domestic (that includes us, MissesDressy.com!). All her designs are on-trend but classy, fun and feminine. Her creations are proudly made in the USA.

As she is currently our featured designer, here are some of Eva’s finest creations we’ve got in store here at MissesDressy.com. See the rest of our collection, click here.

Is the Ombre Hair Trend Still Hot?

featured ombre

Defined as “shaded or graduated in tone” ombre is the french term we’ve heard buzzing around lately. You may have noticed a lot of girls rocking this trend in street style along with A-listers like Britney Spears and Alexa Chung. Giving off a grown out look, the hairdo transitions from darker shades at the roots to lighter shades at the ends and has become a fun way to experiment with multiple colors. It’s even pretty fairly low-maintenance as it allows fewer trips to the hairdresser. But since it’s popularity has begun to die down we’re wondering, is the trendy ombre ‘do still hot?

We’re not totally sure if this trend is still in but just in case you’re considering the ombre look, here are a few tips.  Try temporary dye or hair chalk; with these you can play around with more vibrant colors like pink and blue. You can also select colors according to your skin tone. For darker tones try deep reds, bright caramel, and shades of ash. For medium skin tones brown, muted blonde and gold work best. And for fair skin you can go for lighter blondes and also ash tones.

Weigh in: Is the ombre hair trend still hot?

Ask the MD Staff: What Are You Thankful For?

featured1

After 364 hectic, fantastic, indifferent, and manic days we’re more than excited that Thanksgiving is almost here. Even if for just a few hours we’ll all get to pause for a bit and enjoy a break from the everyday madness (only briefly though– Black Friday shortly follows). As we wind down around the office it’s hard not to reflect on the year that’s nearly over and all that’s been jammed into it. In the spirit of holiday cheer the MissesDressy crew decided to sit down and mull over what exactly we appreciate most nowadays. From soy milk to democracy to toothpaste find out what we’re thankful for and perhaps think through the warm and fuzzy things that bring a smile to your face. Have a wonderful holiday :)

“I am mostly thankful for my family and friends and the never ending love and support I get from them. I am also thankful for the opportunity to work for Misses Dressy, doing what I love best: immersing myself in the fashion world. Lastly, I am thankful for an overall good year this year 2012.”Ainslee

“I’m thankful for toothpaste. I really don’t know how we would communicate and form loving relationships without it. The world would shine a little less (and smell much more) without this minty goo. and something a little less obvious than toothpaste.. i’m always thankful for my family <333″ - Nicole

“I’m Thankful for life opportunities , thankful for new friends and for having a fabulous family.”Elaine

“I am thankful for democracy and to live in a world where my choice can make a difference.” - Janina

“I’m thankful for my family and friends, getting support from your close ones are very important and knowing that there’s always somebody there to listen to what you have to say is all I need.  I’m also thankful for all the opportunities given to me whether it’s in the past or present and being able to wake up to a new day, spending each day meeting new challenges and meeting new people.” – Meekay

“I thank God for the 180-degree turn, mind-blowing surprises, and funny miracles. I’m grateful to Him for “happy meals” and “meaningful conversations”. He’s pretty amazing in encountering me through the people and relationships that He ever so cleverly puts in my life: the husband who spoils me rotten, outrageous friends, and the crazy-loud family. He’s mighty grand in setting up these testings and celebrations, which usually leave me laughing in bewilderment. I mean, how could He be so mindful of me?   Lastly, big thanks to Him for making me wait as He teaches me that waiting has a purpose, and for making me brave as ever; He sure is the God of hope, and faith, and love.” – Cristina

“This year I am thankful for my family and my friends, for down comforters and for soy milk. I am thankful that my little sister is having a great semester in Prague, and even more so that she is coming home very soon!”Anna

“I am thankful for having a great job after a year of searching, my health, and my loved ones. Just being able to wake up everyday is a blessing.”Kevina

“After what’s been a truly phenomenal year and just off the heels of Sandy (and a bizarre November blizzard– egh), more than ever I’m thankful for having a cozy apartment, a warm pair of boots, and a web of beautiful people constantly supporting and motivating me. I’m also thankful for candy corn, my thinning but sustained level of sanity, and the fact that Jersey Shore is on its last season.” – Nalissa

Anne Hathaway and Dakota Fanning in December Mags

featured

On the coattails of box office hit The Dark Knight Rises, Anne Hathaway is showing no signs of slowing down. From her recent wedding to the highly anticipated Les Misérables hitting theater’s this Christmas, the starlet is just getting warmed up. As the December cover girl of  Vogue, Anne stuns wearing Ralph Lauren and Valentino.

Take a look at the spread, shot by Annie Leibovitz, along with snippets of her chat with Adam Green.

On her audition for Les Misérables: “Sometimes you leave a room and you feel like maybe you’ve left the door open a crack. This time, I knew that I had slammed it shut behind me.”

On her wedding night: “Oh, my God, I had a blast. Our friends stayed and partied and danced till really late.”

On her friendship with designer, Valentino: “…family—like some wonderful, non-age-specific sibling.”

On creating her wedding dress: “The memory of creating it with him [Valentino] is something that I will treasure forever. He somehow read my mind and designed the dress that I’d always wanted.”

On her new haircut:  “I love the short-haired lifestyle. But I’m turning 30, and—I hope this isn’t obnoxious to say—I feel prettier, and much more myself. I guess I just feel much more satisfied with less now.”

“I’d feel a little silly and overly dramatic to say that this feels like destiny, but to have this come full circle in such a spectacular way—it’s making me very happy. OK, it feels a little like destiny.”

Sometimes it’s hard to remember Dakota Fanning as the adorable seven-year-old in I Am Sam, isn’t it? Now 18-years-old the talented actress is still precocious, witty and an absolute beauty. On the December cover of InStyle UK Dakota looks elegant and stunning wearing Chanel Resort 2013 and Roberto Cavalli Fall 2012 dresses.

Glance over the spread, shot by Karen Collins, along with Dakota’s take on dating and her defense of friend and co-star Kristen Stewart.

On the final Twilight film: “There’s a sequence in it that will really trip people out. It’s so crazy! They’ll be shocked. But they’ll recover. You’ll see.”

On dating: “I’m not the kind of girl who really wants boyfriends in my life. I’m very black and white in what I feel and I don’t wanna be with someone that I don’t foresee spending a long time with.”

On Kristen Stewart’s recent scandal: “Well, I just think that media frenzies like that… Everyone thinks they have the right to, you know, publicize the struggles and sadness and heartbreak and all of that. It’s like, ‘Why do you think you are the authority to judge people’s experiences?”

Make sure and get your December copy of Vogue and InStyle UK hitting newsstands soon!

The Little Black Dress

the_little_black_dress

Trends may come and go, but the little black dress is forever here to stay. LBDs are classic, need I say more? Blame it on the Givenchy dress Audrey Hepburn (as Holly Golightly) wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s or the little black dress designed by Coco Chanel that was featured in the 1926 American Vogue as they are among the most iconic LBDs of all time.

The great thing about LBDs is that they are classy and very versatile that you can wear one almost anywhere (be it to a formal event or a girl’s night out) and still exude elegance. The only challenge they may present is in trying to make them a bit more interesting, but with the right accessories, you won’t have to worry about such problems arising.

Taking our cue from fashion luminary and Vogue Contributing Editor André Leon Talley who, last September 28th debuted “Little Black Dress”, an exhibition he curated, at the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, Georgia which featured gorgeous black dresses of every design and from various fashion designers, here are just some of the classiest little black dresses available at Misses Dressy:

  Eva Franco LC5202Eva Franco LC5250 ; Tadashi 6X1043M

Jovani 5604 ; Jovani 4864 ; Jovani 158614

Mori Lee 70637 ; Theia 881319 ; Flirt PF5133

It won’t exactly be a surprise if the exhibition tempts women to purchase a beautiful little black dress or maybe even start a collection for herself, but if you happen to be among the women who does get tempted, try not to go overboard to the point that the only thing stocked in your closet are black dresses.
