Kate Winslet On The Red Carpet

Desktop1-001

With recent reports confirming that the British actress has tied the knot (for the 3rd time now) earlier this month with Ned Rocknroll (what a cool name!), we cannot help but wonder what Kate Winslet wore to the super-secret ceremony.

As we try to guess what the voluptuous star’s wedding dress was, maybe a little walk down red carpet memory lane would help! Below are my personal picks of Kate Winslet‘s red carpet looks through the years:

In the 1998 Oscars, wearing Alexander McQueen for Givenchy

Kate broke into Hollywood stardom with the smashing success of Titanic, the film that had also launched her co-star (and close friend) Leonardo DiCaprio‘s shot to fame. While many didn’t find her look remarkable (some even found it scary–eeks!) at the 1998 Oscars, Kate has still managed to keep her star rising, as we all can see now.

2002, in Ben de Lisi

2005, in Badgley Mischka

Sticking to classic evening gown designs, Kate exudes that old Hollywood glamour only a few celebrities can successfully pull off on the red carpet. Her dress choices revolve around one shoulder, mermaid-cut, and strapless gowns because these designs perfectly complement her enviable hour-glass body.

2007, in Valentino

2008, at the Revolutionary Road world premiere

2009, at the 81st Academy Awards

2010, at the Orange British Academy Film Awards

2011, at the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards

2012, (left to right) at the Titanic 3D premiere, 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards, 37th Annual Cesar Awards

Top 5 Best Dressed at the 2012 CMA Awards

cma_awards_2012

Another awards ceremony has been held, and of course, MissesDressy is here to tell you who rocked the red carpet best!

Last November 1st, the 46th Annual CMA Awards was held at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee and was packed with our favorite country stars clad in their best outfits to celebrate the evening. Let’s check out the best of the best dressed at the 2012 CMA Awards and learn a thing or two about the hottest red carpet trends:

Taylor Swift shows us that in spite of her young age, she’s a veteran of the red carpet. Clad in a dress by Jenny Packham (who’s also Kate Middleton‘s fave designer), Miss Swift kept it minimal when it came to accessories to highlight her gorgeous floral embroidered dress.

Embroidery seems to be the name of the game. Carrie Underwood donned a creamy white Reem Acra gown with gold embroidered details.

Lucy Hale went dramatic with a draped cowl neck gown from Moschino. I just love the edgy touch given by the black embellishments along middle part of the dress! Lucy also carried a black Kotur clutch, a label that MissesDressy carries!

Hayden Panettiere kept it short and sweet in a beaded mint Georges Chakra number. The flapper dress look is just perfect on the petite actress, who showcases her singing prowess in Nashville.

Minimalist chic is what country star Faith Hill channeled on the awards ceremony. She wore a streamlined black gown with ivory sleeves by Roland Mouret. Her big luscious locks gave just the right oomph to her clean, uncomplicated look.

Celebrity Style Focus: Leighton Meester

Leighton-Meester-leighton-meester-1361355-1024-768

Whether she’s playing the wickedly fabulous Blair Waldorf in “Gossip Girl” or singing to us who makes “them Good Girls Go Bad,” Leighton Meester sure knows how to do it in style.

The actress, whom we last saw co-starring with funnyman Adam Sandler in “That’s My Boy,” can teach young ladies out there a thing or two about dressing; so let’s backtrack Miss Meester’s best red carpet outfits from 2006 through 2012:

2006: Beach Blonde

Tanned with super light blonde hair, Leighton looked every bit the fresh young Hollywood newcomer that she was. Here she was at a Motorola event in Hollywood wearing a knee-length lace kimono dress with printed flats.

2007: Blair is Born

Here’s Leighton, who’s dyed her hair brown, with her “Gossip Girl” co-star, Blake Lively at the CW Television Critics Association Press Tour party in West Hollywood. Never to be overshadowed by her on-screen BFF, Leighton wore a green mini dress that contrasted well with Blake’s yellow frock.

2008: Miss Missoni

That year we saw Leighton really moving up the style ladder. One perfect example is this well-loved outfit of hers at the 5th Anniversary of Fashion Rocks. This one shoulder evening dress by Missoni (a label of which she will become a face) was well-received by fashionistas and fans alike for its lovely colors and over-all chicness.

2009: Gossip Goddess

Leighton Meester impressed us even more when she attended the 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards wearing a white Greek-inspired Bottega Veneta dress. While some didn’t like her makeup in this event for being a little too ‘dark,’ I personally think it gave a nice contrast to her white dress. I loved the dramatic look!

2010: Miss(ter) Meester

In 2010, Leighton made an edgy turn style-wise, wearing uncommon choices at red carpet events. That year she some avant-garde frocks such as a lace jumpsuit and a crocheted dress. This one is no exception: at the 20th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards Leighton wore a charcoal-hued suit by Thom Browne complete with a necktie. The budding star (and stylista) balanced out her mannish threads with tousled hair, smoky makeup, and high heeled pumps.

2011: Leather, Louis, Leighton

Proving that she’s no novice when it comes to high fashion, Leighton attended the 2011 Met Gala wearing head-to-toe Louis Vuitton. Her look was met with applause from fashion experts, praising her for making such a bold choice.

2012: Golden Glamour

While some weren’t impressed by Leighton’s outfit at this year’s Met Ball, she sure glowed on the red carpet. She wore a gold applique and nude tulle Marchesa Fall 2012, which she paired with a clutch, also from Marchesa.

2012 MTV VMA Readers’ Choice Best Dressed

MTV_video_music_awards_logo_png_610x400_q85

Last Monday, we created a mini-poll over at our Facebook page asking our friends who they thought dressed the best at the recent 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. Our candidates included:

Since we couldn’t decide ourselves on who really was the most fabulous at this red carpet event, we asked the help of our friends to pick that one lovely lady. The votes have been counted, and now we have a winner! And she is…

*Drumroll*

KATY PERRY!

And don’t you think the singer absolutely deserved it? She looked gorgeous that evening in her Elie Saab gown. What’s interesting is that the dress was part of the designer’s 2004 collection–but it seems to be a modern classic already!

Another reason why hers was such an impressive look this time is its subdued appeal. Kudos to the lady for shedding the gimmicky outfit and opting for an elegant look!

In dressing for every formal or red carpet event, the most important factor a lady should consider is elegance. Our collection of red carpet dresses has a wide variety of styles that are great choices for trendy, classic, edgy, or even vintage-inspired looks. But what’s the best thing about our collection is that all its pieces are guaranteed to have elegant and tasteful designs. Here are a few of the most popular among our red carpet dresses:

2012 MMVA Style Match

2012 MMVA

I think by now you readers have observed how much we like creating style matches of female celebrities’ red carpet dresses. I have to admit, it is fun and it just proves our point that with MissesDressy, looking like your favorite celebrity doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Speaking of style matches, the 2012 MuchMusic Video Awards was held last June 17 in Toronto, Canada with famous celebrities such as Selena Gomez, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Katy Perry strutting (or riding, in Carly Rae Jepsen’s case) down the red carpet in their stylish dresses. You know what this means, right?

Right. So let’s get to the style matches, shall we?

Recreate Nelly Furtado’s strapless Herve Leger number with the Faviana 6821 dress. The rose details on the Faviana dress also creates a volume which emphasizes the hip area. Pear shaped women should avoid this style.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d have believed that Selena Gomez was wearing a Scala P1014 gold sequined dress instead of a Roberto Cavalli.

Into Carly Rae Jepsen’s double slit gown? Well, you can get the same style with MissesDressy‘s Jovani 3112 dress. Don’t worry, it’s also available in black! Dannijo necklace not included.

2012 MTV Movie Awards Style Match

mtv

Unlike the Golden Globes, Oscars, Cannes Film Festival, and other big red carpet events, the MTV Movie Awards is more laidback hence the plethora of mini-dresses that paraded down the red carpet; and as with any other red carpet events, there are bound to be some hits and misses. Here I present you some of the hit’s matches and the alternatives to the dresses that didn’t quite hit the bullseye.

Charlize Theron played it safe with a red Lanvin peplum dress which is just as well since people can be harsh with their criticisms especially if it is a well known celebrity such as her. If you’re not much of a risk taker, then I’m sure this Jovani 171094 peplum dress will keep you from committing a fashion disaster.

Another safe player is Eva Amurri looking classy and chic in her white Holmes & Yang mini dress. Look classy and chic too by recreating the look with this Carmen Marc Valvo 10032 capped sleeves sheath dress.

Don’t be fooled by the classic silhouette of Nikki Reed’s gold Randi Rahm sheath dress! Wearing gold is always a risk because it has to be the right gold color, the right fit, and the right style and Twilight star, Nikki Reed, has got it all down pat. Luckily, this Kay Unger 123702 gold mini dress covers all grounds as well.

Lucy Hale looked very pretty in a color-blocked halter dress by Catherine Malandrino, but are those wrinkles on her skirt? Hmm… I say go with the Jovani 7575 satin halter dress; it’s easier to hide the wrinkles on it.

Sure it’s a Christian Siriano dress, but you can also rock Christina Ricci’s MTV Movie Awards look with an Allure 6645 dress. They’re almost the same dress! I said “almost”.

I would’ve loved Ciara’s Balmain dress if it weren’t for the added slit. The slit is too much, Ciara. You’re already revealing a lot without the slit so why the need for one? Really. I think this Hale Bob 1fem6841 dress is doing a fantastic job looking sexy and still keeping it classy, don’t you agree?

Apparently, the Elie Saab spiderweb bodice jumpsuit Elizabeth Banks wore to the latest MTV Movie Awards wasn’t too popular with most people. They just didn’t get it, I guess. I didn’t either. But hey, look at the Tadashi 73940MD dress. Do you think that would’ve been a better choice?

Comment below for your reactions; negative or positive. I’d love to hear your opinion!
