Spring/Summer 2013 Trend: Crop Tops and Bralettes

SS 13 Trend by MissesDressy

Crop tops (examples above) and bralettes (like the ones below), have always been used to make that modern, edgy, fierce fashion statement. And according to fashionising.com, they may well continue to be a fresh style even if they are repeated era after era because they are, “a trend that can never become over-saturated – it’s not for everyone”.

Okay so showcasing the bare belly is not for everybody. But for that certain somebody, believe it or not, crop tops and bralettes form part of the bare essentials for Spring/Summer. We at least hope to inspire you to try this trend; that is, if you still need convincing. If you are that lady who has gone through the wringer to achieve that decently toned abs, or that fearless female who wants to bare just the right amount of skin (hey it is skin season), the midriff is your new accessory. Give it a chance, if you haven’t yet, just like these loveys:

 Rihanna

Sienna Miller

Leighton Meester

Darling fashionistas from the high-street.

Anyway, if styled correctly and with the right length, crop tops and bralettes may emphasize the narrowest part of the body: the first waist —so size 4+ women may just be able to pull it of. They are best paired with high-waist skirts, shorts, or trousers. For 2013, update the look with the sheer maxi skirt or the skinniest jeans or pencil cotton pants or layer with leather or square jackets. Here are just a few styles from the runway that may just help to convince you guys that this trend is hot.

Mara Hoffman

Versace

Charlotte Ronson

Jason Wu

So, are you in or are you out? ^^

British model slash presenter slash contributing editor to British Vogue, Alexa Chung sure is one fashion icon on the rise. Her quirky-meets-chic style has captivated fashionistas the world over, inspiring us to experiment with our looks and have fun doing it.

Alexa broke into the biz in 2006 as a TV presenter, and fame just came knocking at her door since then. In 2009 and 2010, she landed big-time modelling stints with DKNY Jeans and Pepe Jeans London, respectively.

2009 seemed to be Alexa’s big year as she broke into the USA, thanks to her MTV stint. Even though her show, “It’s On with Alexa Chung” for MTV was short lived, her influence in fashion didn’t wane. In fact, Mulberry even named a handbag after her, which sold like hotcakes and was sported by other celebs as well!

Sealing her title as the rising star in fashion, Alexa landed her very first Vogue cover in 2010. She had gained more fame in fashion since then. Just last October, it was announced that she will be releasing her first book in September 2013. Are we looking at the next Anna Wintour? Let’s wait and see!

Witching Hour by Topshop

TOPSHOP OCTOBER 2012

In time for Halloween, Topshop posted the Witching Hour photo feature (seen above) in their website. Cool and spooky, the photo set aimed at showcasing some of the label’s best black numbers.

The feature just goes to show how much Topshop seem to love black this time of the year. In fact, beautiful black dresses, over-sized sweaters, trendy black clutches, and skyscraper-high black heels mostly make up their collection. They also have a great array of  black leather jackets, skinny jeans, and skirts.

To establish their enchantment with black even more, Topshop posted quite a number of street snaps of fashionable outfits in black in their Tumblr, that us here at MissesDressy.com couldn’t help but take note of it. See which glamorously gloomy outfits on the streets got Topshop so bewitched with black.

Cobweb-like delicate lace

Sheer flowy fabric

Feathered-up heels

Rich velvet

Sleek superhero

Androgynous pointy lace-ups

Giraffe-print and zigzags

Unique head-turners

Layered textures

Hope these inspire you guys as much as they did us here at MissesDressy.com. Well, happy shopping!

How-To Wear Lace

lace-street-style2

Sexy might be the first thing that comes to mind when we think of lace, but if you play around with it the look can be cool as well.  Lace may not be for everyone, as it is difficult to pair with certain articles and can be quite revealing. For those of you that want to try out a lace look but don’t know where to start, consider something with lace embroidery.

Matching lace with neon can really bring out the pop in lace detailing.  For a more casual look you can try wearing a shirt underneath a lace dress, making it less revealing and edgy at the same time. Try pairing it with silver jewelry or pick a lace skirt, shorts, or casual sweater, and your all set!

Snaps of Sexy Street Style: From Behind

Made you look!

Sexy's back on the streets!

We see plenty of bare backs on the streets, particularly in the summertime. Why not? It’s perhaps the best way to make a dramatic exit while staying cool in the heat *wink. Well, hey, isn’t it great to be in a seemingly simple laid-back get-up, then make others do a double-take when they see the delightful surprise of the back detail on the outfit? Our street stylistas are quite enjoying it; obviously loving being admired from behind.

This trend from the streets may have inspired the runway and the red carpet. Or is it the other way around? Whichever way, but as far as we know, it’s quite big. A number of our clever designers and celebrities have made us crane our necks to catch a good last view of the back. Our favourites are featured below.

On the S/S 2013 Runways

Gucci balanced simple silhouettes and uni-color with ruffles and skin.

Prada, Oscar de la Renta, Reem Acra went for it and applied the swooping back detail to show a good load of sexy skin.

Jason Wu gave his pieces edginess through the cool leather harness details.

BCBG Max Azria, Alexander Wang, Michael Kors put some genius framing with cut-outs and stripes.

Altuzarra, Cushnie et Ochs, Donna Karan opted for the lower back peekaboo.

Carolina Herrera, DKNY, Monique Lhuillier kept it ultra-feminine with sheer and lace details.

Vera Wang, Suno did not bare yet still made us look because of the spine and vest accents, giving subtle contour.

Proenza Schouler, Philip Lim, Rag & Bone went the extreme opposite direction and covered up the back with fun prints and color.

 On the Red Carpet

Kate Hudson, Bar Rafaeli, Diane Kruger, Sofia Vergara

Eva Green, Kristen Stewart, Blake Lively, Zoe Saldana

Jennifer Lopez, Clare Danes, Emma Stone, Michelle Rodriguez

Anne Hathaway, Heidi Klum, Keira Knightley, Vanessa Hudgens

Florence Welch, Elizabeth Banks, Kellie Pickler, Lea Michele

Graphic Prints

street-style-floralprint-jackets-4-1

Have you been rocking some sort of graphic printed top, trousers or skirt because it’s rather big right now.  Again it’s seen all over the streets during Fashion week.  Givenchy, Kenzo and many other designers are all about graphic printed sweaters and T-shirts at the moment for example like the Givenchy shark printed T-shirt you see most bloggers wearing.  Playing with prints is super fun because you have a choice of matching print on print, keeping it simple by just matching it with something plain and just concentrate on one graphic printed garment, mixing prints by wearing different prints together or add some statement accessories like a necklace, statement earrings it’s totally up to you on what you want to do.

If you’re thinking I  just want to keep it simple and casual then you can just simply wear a printed tee with jeans, flats and a cute statement necklace and maybe adding a black blazer would be cool too.

Streetstyle: Details

2e926673c0173809ff86239663f38c7a

Street style alert!  Check out those details from every outfit, the accessories, colors, prints, shoes and arm swag, just that little bit can bring out the pop from the whole outfit.  Even if the outfit was originally really plain and boring but just by adding on that little detail like a printed jacket, a bright colored top, a statement necklace or even those super high heels can make your total look brighten up in seconds.

I personally think it’s really important to pay attention to the detailing when it comes to building up an outfit, maybe pick out one specific thing you would like to stand out and dress around that.  Like a printed top for example of course you would want that to be the centre of attention maybe so you would want everything else to be plain, like a plain black skirt or jeans but you could add a chunky statement necklace too…just to add a little more to make things look more cool!

Are you rocking the armswag trend because I am and it’s one of the timeless trends I’m loving right now.  It’s super fun to have all those bright colored bracelets on your wrists and maybe a it of bling too, wear them with your watch (only that’s if you like wearing a watch).

On the Streets: Bountiful Prints vs Posh Blocks

Nykhor Paul in Bullet Magazine

The printed and color blocking styles have been the long-standing contenders… uh, we mean — trends, so far. We see that prints are evolving to either bolder or more cheery patterns. While, color blocking has been elevated to becoming the style strength and sometimes inspiration for a design. Check-out as these trends go back-to-back in the London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013, as reported by Frills and Thrills.

Bountiful Prints:

Peter Pilotto | Geometric prints zigzagged in abundance on this runway, at times even mismatched. Funky, right?

Micheal van der Ham | Art-inspired prints were layered in muted+sunshiny colors. This is what we call balance.

Erdem | Citrus, neon, and pastels made up the kaleidoscopic florals. You’ll surely get yourself some admiring attention if you’d walk on the streets in these.

Celebrity Sightings for Bountiful Prints | Poppy Delevingne, Kim Kardashian, Christa Allen, and Hailee Steinfeld made street-wear look high-fashion with abstract prints.

Posh Blocks:

Roksanda Ilincic | The play on color blocks gave these pieces their story, sometimes even seeming like geometric patterns if looked at as a whole. But the clean lines and simplistic combinations made these designs perfect for posh stylistas.

Burberry Prorsum | Jewel and berry colors made-up this parade. The satin and silk materials helped in making the powerful statement because of their luster effect.

Paul Smith | Color-blocking with manly spice makes this runway an awesome evolution of the trend. Clean-cut masculine tailoring and paneled colors were mixed in with some lace and chiffon to give color-blocking a new taste.

Celebrity Sightings for Posh Blocks | Alexa Chung, MissesDressy.com favourites Emma Stone, Olivia Palermo, and Diane Kruger looked modish and fresh in structured bright color-blocks.

We dare you to try-out these trends. Check-out MissesDressy.com for dresses in bountiful prints and posh blocks.

Have fun with neon

neon by jasonwu

As you all know the neon trend has been seen around all spring/summer 12 it’s all over the streets and all over the fashion world.  It’s one of the trends that I particularly LOVE and will carry on wearing through AW12 and after that and after that.  It’s always great to have something bright in your wardrobe, yes neon might be super eye-catching for someone who’s not used to this color but believe me it does brighten up your day.

From nail polish, to shoes, bags, clothes and accessories it’s all about neon!  Pair the amazing color with black, white or if you’re in that mood neon on neon.  Even though we’ve reached fall you can carry on having fun with colors you don’t have to follow all the latest trends, when it comes to fashion don’t be afraid have fun because experimenting is key!!  If you’ve been playing around with neon what have you sneaked in your wardrobe?  Let us know!
