Ginnifer Goodwin’s Hair Evolution From Long Locks to Bold Cuts

featured

Lately we’ve been marveling– obsessing, even –over Ginnifer Goodwin. Though her acting chops have spoken volumes over the years, her plethora of fabulous hairdo’s has also caught our attention. Much like long gone short actresses Michelle Williams, Emma Watson, and perhaps even Miley Cyrus (still haven’t gone yay or nay with the hawk) some women simply blossom when they loose their long locks. Ginnifer has emerged as a red carpet showstopper wearing one of our favorite looks at both the LACMA Art + Film Gala and recent American Music Awards. Take a look at her hair evolution!

The Girl Next Door: Long Locks

From her breakout role in Mona Lisa Smile to blockbuster hits Walk the Line and He’s Just Not That Into You, Ginnifer once donned the sweet “girl next door” look. Playing around with sleek and wavy styles she exuded young, fresh fashion with a hint of sugar on top– no surprise considering her hometown is Memphis, TN.

Fiery Edge: Bob and Boy Cuts

After HBO’s Big Love series concluded Ginnifer not only tackled a new role as Snow White on Once Upon a Time, but she also tackled fabulous bob and pixie ‘dos. We’re not sure whether she set out to banish her previous clean cut style or if she’s simply coming of age, but she is rocking that short cut like nobodies business. From spiked to straightened she has yet to miss a beat. Though her baby face will most likely prohibit her from ever aging too much, she definitely exudes a more refined and sophisticated look.

Clearly we can’t get enough of Ginnfer. Now you weigh in and let us know which hair do is your favorite!

Pale Pinks and Sleek Ponys: Beauty Trends at the 2012 American Music Awards

featured

The 2012 American Music Awards was the energy jolt we needed! Wedged in the middle of award season and a prelude to Thanksgiving week, it was a kick-off of vast proportions if we’ve ever seen one. It had all the necessary elements: (1) spectacular performances– Ke$ha on drums, Justin Bieber in acoustic, and a killer Mc Hammer and Psy duo, (2) a few memorable moments– mainly Christina Aguilera’s bizarre freak show of a performance and Bieber’s boatload of awards, and (3) of course sparkly dresses galore among other glamorous fashion. Classic entertainment at its finest.

Aside from all the antics and shinanigans (there were plenty) we couldn’t help but notice a few recurring beauty trends. There were more than a few bold bangs, sleek ponys, and pale pink lips. Now that’s speaking our language. Take a look at some of Hollywood’s leading ladies sporting theses hot beauty trends!

Bold Bangs

The “Best New Artist” award wasn’t the only thing Carly Rae Jepsen nabbed at the AMA’s. She was also nailed one of our favorite hairstyles– can’t go wrong with a messy bun/bang combo.

Christina Aguilera‘s dress wasn’t a favorite of ours but we loved her sleek cut and bangs. Her nude makeup pulled the look together, giving her the fierce edge she was going for.

Taylor Swift has mastered the red carpet at this point. We’ve been in love with her bangs since she cut them and paired with a nude face (another big trend) she looked fresh and classic.

Sleek Ponys

Heidi Klum is no stranger to a hot ponytail or bun. With that face, we wouldn’t be either.

Jordan Sparks looks sleek as ever with her pulled back locks, which made room for her mixed print gown. We think she could have glammed it up a bit more, but we are a fan either way.

Donning one of our favorite looks for the night Elisha Cuthbert was radiant. Her pulled back blonde tresses went perfectly with nude makeup and drop earrings.

Pale Pink Lips

Pink lips were a huge beauty trend for the night! Sporting a surprisingly subtle look, Ke$ha gave us old Hollywood glam and we loved it! Please keep this up Ke$ha; pretty please!

Can we just take a moment and express how much we’re obsessed with Ginnifer Goodwin? She literally glides down every red carpet she hits! Her pale pink lip and and dress were perfection– and that pixie cut just makes her the cats meow.

Brandy sparkled on the red carpet from her dress to her glamorous makeup. The “Put it Down” singer’s pink lip went perfectly with her faux bob and smokey eye– two thumbs!

Though her short dress may be better suited for a Las Vegas stage, Hayden Panettiere‘s makeup was lovely. Delicate and rosy it went well with the shimmery silver.

Kerry Washington is always a treat for the eyes! In usual classically sleek fashion, her makeup was natural and her hair was seemingly effortless. We won’t even start on that Stella McCartney number…

Middle Part

It’s hard to go wrong with a middle part and wavy locks. Stacy Keibler wore the look it well, though we were craving a wee-bit more spice.

Kelly Rowland looked simple and chic wearing her usual middle part and short dress.

Gwen Stefani does it every time.  Bold red lip + wavy blonde tresses + Balmain perfection = complete and utter bliss.

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards Red Carpet

featured

Only amazing things can happen when Anna Wintour and Diana Von Furstenburg join forces. Notable fashion faces like Rachel Roy, Karlie Kloss and celebs Dakota Fanning and Toby Macguire were out in droves to attend the  Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Fashion Fund awards ceremony. The dual project brings together promising designers all competing for the coveted and highly sought after prize.. Winner Greg Chait took home the opportunity of a lifetime along with $300,000 and a yearlong mentor-ship from an industry vet. Though his name may be unknown to us now but joining the ranks of previous awardees Alexander Wang and Joseph Altuzarra, that won’t last for long. Delivering the keynote speech was Burberry’s creative director Christopher Bailey who reminded the finalists that “it’s OK not to fit in.” I can imagine it was a feel good night for fashion– another great mind on the rise.

Among all the great vibes and inspirational anecdotes buzzing around the event, naturally there was also fabulous fashion. Take a look at some of our favorite looks!

   Emma Stone

For some reason we suspect this gal will be a regular on our best dressed list. Looking simply chic in a Burberry Prorsum S’ 2013 skirt, Emma Stone is refined and sophisticated while still young and fresh. She’s glowing for goodness sakes!

Dakota Fanning

The starlet looks dainty and refined in a pink Jason Wu peplum dress.

Erin Fetherston

Clearly sleek and simple was the motto for the night. Designer Erin Fetherston looks rather springy in this orange ombré gown.

Christopher Bailey & Anna Wintour

What can you say about Anna and her fabulousness without sounding repetitive? Iconic cut, belted trench (with mysterious goodness hiding underneath), and a nude heel — what more can  you ask for? Christopher also looks quite sharp and cool wearing black denim and a tuxedo jacket.

Gwendoline Christie

Classic, classic, and more classic. The dress’ silhouette makes Gwendoline look modern while the hint of jewelry adds a bit of glam. Absolutely love it!

Jenna Lyon

Hands down. Favorite look. No questions asked. J. Crew creative director, Jenna Lyon emulates that on-the-go city girl we were drooling over in the brands Fall 2012 lookbook. Someone needs to bottle and sell this level of style.

Lauren Santo Domingo

Always stylish, Lauren looks elegant with a bit of sex appeal in this white lace dress. Effortless style wins again.

Rachel Roy and Louise Roe

There had to be a spring wear dress code or something at this shindig. Both women looked fresh and fabulous even though we’re not huge fans of the wide leg crop and think Louise should have excersied the Chanel rule (the headband or the jumbo necklace can go).

Light Side of the Moon: Nasty Gal November Lookbook

In some cases, its safe to judge a book by its cover. As with international online store Nasty Gal, the name definitely says it all. With a mix of edgy, fashion forward pieces the brand is a blend of all the novel items you wish were in your local vintage shop and the runway looks you fantasize about getting your hands on. One half sporty and one half casual chic, the collection is filled with velvet, mesh, and metallic textures along with cropped tops galore (yippee)! Not to mention the super fabulous Naomi Preizler looking pretty bad ass.

Wildfox Resort 2012/13 Lookbook

featured

I don’t know about you, but I seldom see my grandmother sitting Indian-style on the front lawn or sniffing flowers in an off the shoulder midriff top– but that could just be me. In the graphic filled, vintage inspired Wildfox Resort 2012/2013 collection, entitled Granny’s Closet, the modern day elder is embodied in models Mila De Wit and Nyasha Matanhodze. With a bit of wit and humor, the collection has classic pieces from the cozy button-down sweater and floral cropped pant, to polka dot shorts and an “I Love My Cat” t-shirt. As described on I Love Wildfox, the assortment of quirky outfits transform granny from our fumbling, no holds barred senior to the young girl she once was and still is at heart.

“This collection is a tribute to granny and her perfectly mismatched style, her love of cats, jewels, travels and gardening, her hair that she never cuts, the old mansion she bought in the 90’s with the last of her savings, her big glasses she always wears to brunch, and that grandma spirit we all know and adore.” – Kimberly Gordon of Wildfox

What a delightful muse, isn’t it? We’ve all seen collections replicating style from decades gone by, but when have we ever held up a glass for granny’s closet? Paired with this beautiful concept and photography by Mark Hunter, thanks to Wildfox Resort ’12/13 (due out this month), suddenly all those summers sifting through grandmothers old photos and jewelry boxes have gathered new meaning.

“Going to Grandmas house as a kid you don’t really think of her as a young woman, you see her as she is, old and maybe a bit crabby, hilarious and totally picky, wearing outfits she’s had since the 60’s mixed with incredibly funny 80’s sweat suits and orthopedic shoes.”

“Her cat ornaments fill the edge of the glass table, you try on her pearl earrings and polka dot bangles, sparkling costume diamonds and dark red lipstick, looking in the mirror for a second you can almost picture her, 18, summertime, crushing over the Paul Newman look-alike lifeguard at the lake, or 21 years old laughing with her girlfriends over gin martinis in nude thigh highs and pin curls.”

“…when you see one of those old photos of her it can be fantastically over whelming… this is where you came from!”

Hot Trend: Nude Illusion Featuring Jovani Spring 2013 Prom Collection

Primary Photo

Spotted: the nude illusion style on a good number of pieces in the Jovani Spring 2013 Prom Collection. The nude illusion trend has been a favourite in Hollywood, and has been done by the likes of Emilio Pucci, Elie Saab, Marchesa, Roberto Cavalli, Atelier Versace, and Alexander McQueen.

Nude illusion is a dress design in which a sexy sheer fabric veils skin that would otherwise be exposed, somewhat like a stocking. This frothy confection keeps a supposedly sizzling number a notch demure to maintain the elegance and sophistication. Lace overlay, or stone and sequin-embellished tulle, are strategically positioned on the dress to create a peekaboo of skin in the most teasing areas. Such a touch of drama leaves us here at MissesDressy.com all giddy and excited. Check-out the nude illusion trend on these fun, flirty, romantic, and sassy pieces by Jovani Prom, available at MissesDressy.com.

Best + Worst + Boring 2012 Celebrity Halloween Costumes

featured

As people all over the globe gear up for Halloween events tonight, celebrities have already gotten the party started. Not too long ago we counted down a few of our all time favorite celeb costumes, before we got a glimpse at what they’d be sporting this year. Some costumes were pulled off well, while others needed help, and others sent us straight to sleep! From mermaids, to the Queen of the Nile, to totally unidentifiable we’re still scratching our heads over here. Check out a rundown of this years best, worst, and boring celebrity costumes!

Best

Hilary Duff in Dia de los Muertos costume

She definitely gets the “Best Makeup” award for the great details. We’re creeped out– in a good way.

Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley and boyfriend, Roger Mathews as Geeks

Not the most inventive idea, but the Jersey Shore stars look adorable and it’s nice to see them in nerdy garb– hope it rubs off!

Stacy Keibler as Black Swan

George Clooney’s beau looks classic and gorgeous, as usual.

Heidi Klum as Queen of the Nile

Oh, Heidi. Leave it to you to bring it home once again– nailed it!

Worst

P. Diddy as Prince

The media mogul may know how to run his biz, but this costume makes us want to just run away. Far away– yikes!

Christina Aguilera as uh, a princess?

We can only base our loose interpretation of Chrisitna’s costume on her boyfriend’s armor. Princess or damsel in distress may be what she was going for, but she looks more like Nikki Minaj after a bear attack.

Boring

Kim Kardashian as a mermaid

If it wasn’t for Halloween, this dress could easily be another one of her red carpet looks. Nice, but a snoozer.

Paris Hilton as Alice in Wonderland

Cute, but she looks like she could possibly go wait tables after the Halloween bash.

Let us know what you think– did these celebs nail it or not?

Prabal Gurung For Target Partnership (Video)

featured

We’ve been talking fashion collabs all week! First Maison Martin Margiela for H&M, then designers partnering with Harrods department store for Disney princess designs, and now news of Prabal Gurung for Target has surfaced. Don’t you love this cozy, collaborative, “can’t we all just get along” side of fashion? Aside from the perceived disconnect with mainstream chains and high-fashion, the designer/mega store dynamic is definitely a “thing”… we’re feeling it.

Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried in Prabal Gurung

Kate Middleton and Kate Hudson in Prabal Gurung

Michelle Obama in Prabal Gurung

Prabal Gurung has dressed some of the worlds most fabulous women and now the Singapore-born New York designer will be bringing his figure flattering, sexy and wearable pieces to Target. This isn’t the international superstores first partnership, riding on the coattails of a recent Jason Wu collab and an upcoming Neiman Marcus collection (launching Dec. 1st) that will feature 24 designers including Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, and Tracy Reese. Of the brief partnership Gurung says, “The reason I wanted to do this collaboration with Target was to offer what I do to a wider audience.”

Prabal Gurung for Target 2013

The Prabal Gurung 80-piece collection will include clothes (ranging from $20 to $200), shoes, accessories, and jewelry (from $13 to $40) in both stores and on Target.com. It debuts on February 10th and will most likely be swept up within hours. We’re predicting a lot of bold colors and prints strolling around next Valentines Day.

Check out a sneak peek of the collection and Gurung’s thoughts on his upcoming designs and his love driven aesthetic.

Designers Recreate Disney Princess Gowns for Harrods Christmas Display!

sleeping beauty elie saab

Fashion heavyweights spanning the globe will replicate Disney princess gowns in a Harrods Christmas window display next month– ahhh! (Jinx.) Don’t bother rubbing your eyes in disbelief. This is actually happening. Unveiling on November 1st, the high end London department store’s display will feature designer interpretations of memorable looks pegged to Disney princesses we all know and love. In correspondence with the 7,000 square foot pop-up Disney shop already open in the store, the dresses will bring back those childhood butterflies that preceded the holiday season once upon a time. Those darn Disney queens never fail.

So which designers are allowing their imaginations to run wild, mused by these classic characters, you ask? Oscar de la Renta is re-imagining Snow White’s feminine whiles and beauty while Cinderella is made modern at the hands of Versace and Phocahontas’ uninhibited yet demure style is channeled by Roberto Cavalli. This will be colossal.

In the mean time, while we twiddled our thumbs in anticipation, take a look at designer sketches of the spectacular gowns.
