Fashion Trends on the Kids’ Choice Awards ’13 Orange Carpet

Nickelodeon's 26th Annual Kids' Choice Awards - Arrivals

Nickelodeon’s annual Kids’ Choice Awards (KCA) were held on Saturday night, March 23rd at USC’s Galen Center in LA. The gorgeous Josh Duhamel was on post for the hosting duties; and (we can’t help but gush about how) he was his usual cute-witty self.

Quite a number of fun and funny A-listers were there –the likes of Niel Patrick Harris, Adam Sandler, Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp, and Steve Carell. Beautiful and sexy ladies like Katy Perry, Fergie, and Jessica Alba also made their appearance. Kid-favorite stars wowed the crowd of course, causing some high-pitched screams and shrieks: Kristen Stewart, Selena Gomez, Victoria Justice, Bella Thorne, Miranda Cosgrove, and many more.

As for the fashion, well, the KCA orange carpet gave kind of a more chill vibe as stars did without uber formal dresses. Almost everybody settled for mini dresses, some for tea-length dresses and dressed down suits. Colors of spring and summer were abundant –and quite appropriately so– well because kids like brights and lights, don’t they? It’s their show anyway. And, (we approve that) the youngsters stuck to fresher and hipper hues instead of going for the premature maturing darker shades.  The trends? They were as follows:

Fashion Trends at the 2013 People’s Choice Awards

PCA Red Carpet

The 39th Annual People’s Choice Awards (PCA) was held Wednesday night, January 9th at the Nokia Theater in L.A. The memorable moments from the show were Taylor Swift’s plunging neckline and her being Kanye’d by award presenter Olivia Munn, Hunger Games’ 5-award victory, powerhouse performances by equally talented artists Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera, and many others.

But, there’s no mistaking that we all tuned in more-so to see what our favorite celebrities wore on the red carpet. We dare report that based on the PCA’s red carpet, our Hollywood style idols are still quite hungover with the 2012 fashion. They donned some of the top trends in fashion from last year. Have a look at some of the notable repeat trends from that night at the PCA.

BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL

Happy Ending star Casey Wilson looked dashing in a bold blue Jerome C. dress paired with a bright pink clutch. | Chloë Grace Moretz, star of the kick-ass movie, Kick Ass, painted the town neon yellow with her Simone Rocha mini. | Glowing with her Hawaiian tan, Glee star, Lea Michele showed off her legs via a bright pink Elie Saab dress with matching heels. | Britanny Snow looked fresh in a lemony Maria Lucia Hohen dress.

ANGELS IN WHITE

Morena Baccarin of Homeland donned a white strapless pantsuit. | Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo looked pretty and fragile in a loose white dress cinched by a wide black leather belt. | Seemingly taunting her ex, One Direction’s Harry Styles, Taylor Swift dumped her usual sweet princess look a for a sexy semi-tailored white gown with a plunging neckline. And to top it off, she’s bagged the People’s Choice award for Favorite Country Artist. | Superstar Regina King was commissioned to hand a special award to friend Sandra Bullock; and for the job she wore an elegant white cocktail dress with a lace sash.

DARK COLORS + SHIMMER

Naomi Watts looked every inch a movie star in a dramatic gold and black backless number. | Ryan Seacrest’s girl knows how to rock sequins. Julianne Hough sparkled in a midnight blue Tony Ward Couture dress and silver Guiseppe Zanotti shoes. | Project Runway host and mother of four– yes four –Heidi Klum vamped it up in a Julien McDonald black dress with glittered slits detail. | Rumer Willis was all covered up yet looked so hot in a black and silver sequin gown with diagonal stripes hugging her curves.

Top 5 Fashion Trends of 2012

2012 Top 5 Fashion Trends

This is our round-up of the top 5 favorite style inspirations and fashion statements in the year that was 2012. We give you the most memorable trends that debuted and reappeared on the runways, red carpets, stylish streets, and editorial pages. Are you ready?

1. Revival of the Dark Eras: Baroque and Gothic

Famously avant-garde designers like Alexader McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Aquilano Rimondi, and Balmain revived these period styles for 2012, and boy did they make the fashion world ecstatic.

Baroque implies strangeness, drama, and extravagance. In the modern times, these are interpreted by way of incorporating gold, brocade, and other luxe materials.

While, Gothic, with its rich, mysterious, and darkly romantic qualities, saves dark colours from the death of being boring.

2. Prints, Prints, Prints

With floral and scarf, aztec and animal, swirls and dots and zigzags, cosmic and paint splash, 2012 never had a scarcity of prints. But, what’s awesome was the print on print play on a lot of outfits. And, why, whether in haute couture or RTW, prints were present year round.

3. Surprise of Sexy Skin

Showing off of skin got quite classy in 2012. Ladies opted to tease with just a hint of skin through sheer fabrics. Peekaboo of skin also got inventive with the birth of laser cut-outs, and with the designs that cleverly accentuated just one body part like the back, shoulder, or waist.

4. Metallic Madness

Sparkles and glitters are synonymous to glamour — and glamour, fashion could not live without; therefore, silvers, golds, and even pinks in the form of sequins and shimmery fabrics are requirements every year, yes even in 2012. Any objections?

5. Neon and Brights

Okay, so white, black, and red had been crowd favourites this year. But, if we must say, neon and brights in every hue imaginable drastically changed the tides and made quite the impression on the fashion-forward gen. Neon and brights coloured even the usually serious and classic lace, doilies, eyelets, fringe, and fur giving out a quirky vibe. Who’s to say that neon worked even in metallic fabrics.

Valentino Pre-Fall 2013

2012 style and fashion could be described in these words: inventive, outrageous, and fearlessly individual. Both new bloods and established designers revitalized the fashion world and satisfied the hunger of edgy and experimental stylistas for fresh perspectives and more personal, characteristic, custom takes on style. So, generally it had been a year of success for fashion, don’t you agree?

Other top trends that didn’t make it to the top 5, but were notably present, were fringe and feathers, peplum, and ombre.

Which trend gets your thumbs-up?

Meet the Designer: Don O’Neill of THEIA

THEIA Creative Director/Designer Don O'Neill

For what we learn about him, as he reveals more about himself through his network in the industry and of course, through his genius, we have developed fondness and respect for Don O’Neill, creator and designer of the THEIA label. His designs speak so much of his meticulousness, clearly showing his great love for fashion. His friends and colleagues speak praises of his character and talent. We particularly love how he was described by “style artist” Viktorija Bowers in her blog:

From the moment I met him he permeated by warmth and love that is sometimes lacking in our industry. No matter how hectic it got, no matter how many people had opinion around him, no matter the fact that this is the most important show of his life, his very first, this man wore grace and kindness like most beautiful crown. That is why, his success, his talent and beauty he creates is extra special. Because it is happening to truly good person and it gives you re assurance that you can be successful artist without loosing your beautiful compassionate humanity.

From what we’ve learned, Don O’Neill began his career by studying at the Barbara Burke College of Fashion Design in Dublin. A few fulfilling London apprenticeship after, he bagged the Design Director position for the Carmen Marc Valvo label; then went on to launching an evening wear collection for Badgely Mischka. In 2009, he founded his own fashion brand, THEIA –named after the Greek goddess of light– birthed by his “vision to bring out every woman’s inner goddess“. [Read his full story here.]

His designs for his own label had been worn by country superstars Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift; and, had been featured in notable media outlets like “People Magazine, Life and Style, Us Weekly, E! News, InStyle.com, Glamour.com, and more“. One of his most recent career milestones was when he was asked to make a dress for none other than Oprah. According to reports, the media mogul wore one of his dresses for the cover of O magazine September 2011 issue, and loved the dress so much that she asked to have a similar dress made for her attendance in the 2012 Oscars. The dress was appropriately in gold, made up of millions of sequins on a stretch fabric.

Below are a few more of Don O’Neill’s magnificent designs. Do head on to MissesDressy.com if you want to get a hold of one of them. Happy shopping!

Bridal or Red Carpet? Reem Acra Pre-Spring 2013

Reem Acra Resort 2013

For pre-Spring 2013, topnotch designer, Reem Acra presents a collection more than worthy of the walk down the aisle AND the red carpet. This outstanding designer has fully transcended from Bridal to Hollywood. And this time she seems to be drawing in the younger crowd again. We imagine, with the colored-lace short dresses, the fluid caftans, the flowy and embellished tulle gowns, she will  attract the likes of Selena Gomez, Lea Michele, Dianna Agron, Vanessa Hudgens, Anna Kendrick, Emma Roberts, who not to mention, have already worn her creations.

Acra’s palette includes ivory and champagne, sugary pastels (peach and mint green), and jewel tones. Her pleating plus layering to make full skirts is genius. She perfectly balances pretty and polished, romantic and unique with her strategic positioning of lace and beads.

We’re neither a bride nor a soon-to-be Prom queen, but we’re loving on these dresses! We particularly love the ivory dress with sheer-laced sleeves (first row), nude dress with sheer-beaded sleeves and ruffles in the skirt (third row), and the peach dress with lace from bodice to skirt (fourth row). Which is your favorite?

Style It Like the “RED” Hot Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift RED

The charismatic, considerably talented, Taylor Swift has released her highly-anticipated fourth album, RED just less than a month ago. With it she proves just how (quite appropriately) red hot she is as she maintains to hold the #1 position in the Billboard’s 200 top albums chart, earns U.S. sales exceeding 1.5 million albums in RED’s first two weeks (scoring music’s highest first-week sales in more than a decade), and reaches #1 on the iTunes sales charts in 42 countries. When asked about the album title, she shares:

“Red is such an interesting color to me because you have the great part of red. Like, the red emotions that are like daring and bold and passion and love and affection. And then on the other side of the spectrum you have jealousy and anger and frustration and ‘you didn’t call me back’ and ‘I need space.”

With the release of her album she has also posted photos used in the album artwork. Style and Taylor lovers like us have taken note of the styling, individuality and honesty of the images. She sticks to her own prim and proper style, and we love it. Check out some more of the photos to get a sense of her unique style.

To add fuel to her hotness, Taylor Swift took home 3 of the most sought-after awards at the 2012 Europe Music Awards held in Frankfurt, Germany: Best Female Act Award, Best Live Act Award, and the first ever Best Look Award. The Best Look Award celebrates the music star with the greatest style for the year and rightfully so, Taylor Swift was voted as this year’s style leader beating Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Jack White, and A$AP Rocky.

Taylor’s awesome night at the EMA’s capped her week in Europe which included stops in London and France for promotional appearances for RED. Before and after that, she also completed a wave of shows and guest spots in the U.S. Let’s breathe in more of Taylor Swift style goodness as we look at photos of her recent appearances in Europe and in the U.S.
