Dramatic Draped Dresses

Alessandra-Ambrosio-for-Vogue-Mexico-December-2010

Why do we love a draped dress? Because it’s loaded with a dramatic flair that will make any girl wearing one look like a goddess in an instant!

Drapery is one of the simplest yet most stylish way to design a dress, as some need very little to no sequins or beadwork but still look beautiful. That doesn’t mean anyone can just go around wearing drapery out of fabric (that would be weird), though–we’ll have to leave it to talented designers with a sharp eye for beauty to do that!

Sarah Jessica Parker | Rihanna | Jessica Alba

From Greek-inspired gowns to ruched-up minis, draped dresses are seen everywhere worn by top models, A-list celebs, and fashionable femmes (pictured above). So, be a goddess on earth with your own draped dress! Here’s a little peek at our massive collection of draped dresses at www.missesdressy.com:

Spring 2012 Trend Report: Metallic Madness

metallics

Spring is in and it brings yet another trend for us fashionistas to follow–Metallics!  Gold, silver, and bronze are the hues that come on top when we talk about metallics.  And why not?  As precious metals, they are the best colors to channel that luxe glamour that all stylephiles adore.  As haute couture labels have showcased in their Spring/Summer ’12 lines, fashionistas are being called this season to don their shiniest frocks.  From New York to Paris to London and Milan, metallic is the trend to watch!

If high fashion houses have them, MissesDressy has definitely got ‘em too!  Our collection of prom dresses and formals have metallic pieces that surely fit the latest trend.  Metallic cocktail dresses as well as gowns for all other occasions are in store for you to choose from and strut in on your next event!

Bold Bronzes

Going for a gladiator-glam-look in your next event?  Well, your best bet is the 2757 Dress by Sherri Hill!  This one may be a shorty, but don’t be fooled: its strength is seen all over the dress with the heavy embellishments along the torso, the intricate pleats on the skirt, and the gladiator pads on the shoulders!

Mirror Mirror on my Laptop?!

mirror

Remember the computer program called Virtual Makeover? It was a program where you can take a photograph of yourself and add different hairstyles and make-up styles. It was a lot of fun, but it just didn’t seem real, and I never took the tips that the Virtual Makeover suggested, because the “hair” always looked like molded plastic.

I stumbled upon an interesting article while reading my fashion blogs a really cool, newly introduced program called Virtual Mirror. The Virtual Mirror is only fitting for those hardcore online shoppers and thinking into the future, we soon may be able to “try” on clothes online—not for fit, but simply for looks. I agree, there is nothing like trying on the clothes and looking into a real mirror, but think about how much we will save in return shipping fees and restocking fees?! Can you imagine future brides virtually trying on their Jovani wedding dress or Terani Couture Evening engagement party dress?! The only items needed are your computer and webcam (necessary so the virtual mirror can “see” you).

The Virtual Mirror, alas, is only available on an Australian boutique accessory website, simply called Boutique Accessories, so for our Aussie readers, check out the website and “try” on a few baubles.

For those outside of Australia, the jewelry and accessories offered are really fashionable, I was thinking that many of the earrings have that beach-y, almost Hale Bob dress kind of feel. Too bad, I’m in NYC. Check out this gorgeous Sophie Kyron statement necklace featuring an elegant array of turquoise beads, which would go smashingly with this elegantly and beach-inspired Hale Bob maxi dress. Why not add a pair of dangly earrings for that added touch of dreamy sparkle for your warm destination? Earrings are also designed by Sophie Kyron.

Imagine a world where we can buy our clothes and formal attire online, fully knowing that it will look fabulous on us when Mr. Postman delivers it? Or trying on your wedding gown at home and then click to add to your shopping cart all while still in your PJ’s and fluffy bear feet slippers? Can the future of online shopping be that simple?! Maybe we’ll be able to add this Virtual Mirror feature to MissesDressy. Maybe the Shopping Gods are really listening to our shopping prayers after all.

Boho Chic In Hale Bob

halebob2

The days are getting colder, and suddenly 5 P.M. feels like it’s way past midnight. While the seasons might be changing, the trends from summer still linger. The 70′s laid back, boho chic vibe is making it’s way back into fall and winter looks, so why not make the transition with it? All you need is a pair of boots and tights instead of wedge sandals and flip flops to go along with these lovely little 70′s inspired dresses from Hale Bob.

Loose fitted batwing sleeves and shapeless silhouettes are the trademark features of these Hale Bob dresses that might as well be from 1970. To transition from the light, flowing look of summer, stick to darker colors like this gorgeous red and black print dress or this burgundy velvet burnout dress. You can pair these with boots or clogs and tights. Perfect for the holiday season as well!

If you’re not into how obviously 70′s the loose sleeves and paisley prints look, stick to this simple Young-Edwardian inspired little black dress. It’s more chic, less hippie, and you can dress it up with a pair of heels. Throw on a wool floppy hat to complete your vintage look, and add a pair of lace floral tights to keep it modern.

All of these dresses are great for layering as well, especially in the colder months. Pair them with a faux fur coat, a knitted wool cardigan or a woven poncho to stay warm. If being overly-feminine and girly isn’t your thing, toughen up the dresses with a fitted leather jacket and a pair of vintage motorcycle boots for edge… my favorite!

Check out more of Hale Bob’s 70′s vintage inspired collection. You’ll have just a hint of this decade’s carefree vibe, but with a modern twist!

Jennifer Aniston Dazzles in a Show-Stopping Metallic Dress!

Jennifer Aniston Elle Women in Hollywood MissesDressy

It’s no surprise how Jennifer Aniston stole the show at the 18th Annual Women in Hollywood Tribute presented by Elle. With this figure-flattering metallic mini dress featuring plunging neckline by Kaufman Franco, Aniston left little to the imagination but in the best possible way. And although our eyes couldn’t stop reeling at the many glowing looks worn by some of the world’s most beloved ladies, we couldn’t help but feel this natural fixation to Aniston. Yes, it’s true that she didn’t seem too hesitant about flaunting her unfair assets, but with a body like hers, we couldn’t see why not. Oh, and did we mention that this gorgeous dame is 42? Not fair…not fair at all. It’s quite clear that she has been genetically blessed by the heavens.

Combining her jaw-dropping metallic beauty, Aniston went with a pair of strappy Balenciaga heels, a Ferragamo clutch and Fred Leighton jewels, keeping her accessories to a minimum and leaving the dress to do all the talking. And if you want to scoop a similar look, we ladies at MissesDressy.com have got you covered, as always! Scouring our showroom, we came across the perfect dresses if you’re craving some shimmer like Aniston’s. If you’re leaning more towards a light copper sheen, our Hale Bob dress would work wonders, especially given it’s deep neckline feature and tulip bottom detail. For a deep shimmery tobacco, we chose this long-sleeved mini shift by Adrianna Papell for E! dress. The style works well for formal night events and cocktail parties and even for day, given it’s more understated neckline. For a silver tone (a bit more on point with Aniston’s color and plunge), this mini dress by Scala Couture is quite the catch. For accessories, we went with a pair of shiny strappy stilettos by Christian Louboutin and a champagne clutch by Jimmy Choo. Just enough bling! And to capture Aniston’s radiant complexion, try out Nars Illuminator in ‘Laguna’ for that added dose of summery glow.

Your Top Three Dresses from Day Through Night

Day to Night Blog Adrianna Papell

Have you ever encountered those epiphany moments during one of your shopping escapades when you truly know that you’ve spotted the perfect dress? Think we’ve all experienced those pesky retail frustrations. Those times when you’ve probably spent hours of your day perusing the racks of your favorite stores, pulling items that you “think” you might need, asking yourself if you already have something similar, envisioning how and where you’d wear it, debating alone in the fitting room, questioning whether it’s even worth the trip to the checkout counter, etc, etc! Yes, we’ve all been there! But then again, on those rare occasions, you come across an item that just works without any need for second guesses. You take one glance and instantly project yourself wearing such a clever creation in a plethora of ways, regardless of what hour of the day or even what season (if it’s that good). Here at MissesDressy.com, we’ve definitely come across a few lucky styles that made their way into such an exclusive category.

First up, is this Adrianna Papell for E! shimmery long-sleeved mini dress in a fierce tobacco hue. Typically you may initially think – a shimmery dress can only work well at night. But this particular little beauty can very well be your instinctive go-to dress for an all day affair. For daylight hours, we’ve coupled this dress with a slouchy beige suede jacket, Alexander Wang Georgie loafers, Proenza Schoulder PS11 shoulder bag, wayfarers and a Nixon gold watch. To instantly transform this dress into the perfect nighttime look, we styled it with a Chanel velvet evening purse, Alexander Wang Fabiana silver heels, Pamela Love cuff, a smack of red lips from Nars and (if it’s a bit chilly out) a supple fur scarf.

Second on our roundup is this hot red number by Unaluna. The billowy sleeves, boat-shaped neckline and cinched waist give a comfortable, laid back approach, while the vibrant red color and gold tassle detailing can quickly morph this beauty for an all-night out affair. For day, we’ve styled this dress with a leather Chanel bucket bag (great to stuff all your essentials), YSL Tribute platforms in a creamy beige and crystal rock ring by Armani Exchange.

For our third look, we went with ever-so-versatile Hale Bob and pulled this mini dress. There’s something quite edgy going on with these cutout shoulders and black/white print. For a day look, we went with Theysken’s Theory ankle strap wedges in an burgundy ombre color with trouser socks, iconic Celine purse and velvet headband for a clean, pushed-back do. The style of this dress pretty much speaks for itself so decided to keep it simple for night. A pair of open-toe boots and trunk clutch by Alexander Wang, and Nars Multiple stick will do doubt do the trick.

Office Chic with Hale Bob

Office clothes don’t have to be boring! With this business casual line from Hale Bob at MissesDressy you can look as chic at the office as you do during the weekend. Luckily we still have some weeks of mild weather ahead of us where these outfits will look great with bare legs and a killer heel. Never fear, when winter does set in, team these looks with opaque tights and boots to beat off the chill. the best part about this line is the versatility. Choose your outfit in the morning and be prepared for power meetings all day and date night after work – it’s the best of both worlds in one look. Our personal Hale Bob favorite is the black lace number. This can be coupled with some bangles or drop earrings for your post office cocktails and features and alluring lace panel back.

Office Couture with Hale Bob @ Misses Dressy

I’m wearing white after labor day.

Is it safe?

Wearing white after Labor Day is considered a fashion faux pas. The fashion rule stemmed from aristocratic society deeming your summer whites a neglible offense if worn after the Labor Day (this takes place the first Monday of September). However, we at MissesDressy feel that this rule is totally null and void! We would suggest that you do not don a pair of white shoes-ever-unless fashionably required, of course. In that case, we can forgive you. White is merely not just a color, but a high contrast color, simply used to lighten darker colors-reds to pinks, greens to mints, etc.

Hues of rich creams, ivories, and pale pinks are close to white and totally acceptable for a late summer barbeque, a shopping day trip, or for a friendly lunch. Wear shoes appropriate to your dress like a pair of dark brown espadrilles or copper gladiator sandals. Flats are acceptable, but choose a bright color to offset your dress. Introducing brightly colored accessories like metallic baubles, and sassy hairpieces will help deepen your late summer look.

Hale Bob is notorious for designing chic summer looks for savvy fashionistas and the Hollywood elite. The collection boasts a variety of fresh, summer dresses in warm autumn tones and bright summer hues. Check out this warm white Cabana dress donned with some metalled charm at the neckline and the linen fabric is adorned with floral eyelets. Pair this gorgeous dress with your favorite flats in a metallic gold to bring out the metal embellishments. Accessories that have tumbled stone charms are a great way to bring in a natural, earthy feel.

Another option from Hale Bob would be this gorgeous neutral toned Maxi Dress. The layered fabric will add dimension to your frame, in addition to adding drama and movement. Accessorize with ease by wearing a pair of wooden or cork heels, and a pair of metallic earrings. No need for a necklace, because the deep v-neck allows for your neck to shine.

We say wear a variation of white, and wear it proudly, because we smell a long Indian summer approaching. Your summer whites have been designed to keep you cool, because white fabrics are less dense and flow more freely. We say don white well into winter, but not in dress form – a bright scarf, or lily white sweater is perfectly acceptable. Happy Labor Day everyone!
