10 dresses you should own

10 dresses you should own

Dress is so easy to wear. Just zip it, and go. It’s also one of those staple and must have items in your wardrobe. I believe every woman should own all kinds of dress! But to be ready for any events and occasions, these are the 10 kinds of dresses you should have in your wardrobe.

1. A Little Black Dress (LBD) – Black is a timeless color you can wear almost anytime and everytime! Since it’s a neutral color, it’s so easy to mix and match with any other colors.

7. A safe party dress – Every woman needs one reliable party frock. For a timeless piece, look for details (embellishments, neckline, pattern, colors) and silhouettes.

8. A stunning maxi dress – Dress it down with pretty flats, or dress it up with gorgeous pumps. This dress should be versatile.
The slip dress silhouette works best on tall, lithe figures. Empire-waist and halter maxidresses are super flattering on curvier bodies. And petite ladies who want to look taller might opt for a solid color head-to-toe.

9. A floral dress – Go for big and bright prints, the brighter the better. Wear it at backyard barbecues, garden parties, summer weddings, or evening events. Wanna wear it to work? Simply throw a blazer and a pair of pumps or flats in neutral colors to tone it down.

10. A flirty summer frock – Dress it up or dress it down, wear it with cute sandals for summer, or cardigan and tights for winter. It’s best to choose a classic cut because it’ll be the dress you’ll wear for years to come.

I would like to share some of my tips to shop while you’re on a budget…

  • Decide how much money you want to spend for the whole outfit (dress, accessories, shoes)
Say, your budget is $300, find a dress that costs around $150 to $ 200, then you can use the rest of the money for accessories (necklace, earrings, bracelet – if necessary) and shoes.
  • Go for non-traditional dress
Typically, Prom dress is a classic princess-y ball gowns, but fashion is about thinking outside the box and creating trends. We are so lucky to live in this modern era that most of the things doesn’t have to be traditional. You no longer have to wear a ball gown (unless you really want to). Choose a statement mini dress, easy to wear and no need to worry about someone stepping on your dress. Or gorgeous chiffon dress, or even fabulous printed dress to look stunning and different than others.

Pastel Perfection

Pastel Perfection

Spring and Summer 2012 is being invaded by the pretty pastel colors such as cream, light pink, coral, and peach. Not only these soft colors are easy and safe to mix and match with other colors, they are also suitable for every skin tone.

Some designers and fashion houses released these colors into their collections. If you do like the girly style, these colors are perfect for you!

Some tips to wear pastel colors:

  • Add accessories with matching color to look more special. The size of accessories (necklaces, bangles, earrings) should be adjusted to the event (for formal events, wear small and dainty jewelry; whereas for parties, big bangles or statement necklaces are fine).
  • Baby blue and mint green is very common. Mix baby blue or mint green with coral to look fresh, stylish, and add a punch to it.
  • Want to look more edgy with pastel colors? Simply add a crop leather jacket and a studded bracelet.

2012 Make Up: Oscars VS Paris Fashion Week

2012 Make Up - Oscars VS Paris Fashion Week

As you’ve probably read our reviews on Oscars 2012 here and here, now we’d like to discuss the celebrities’ eye make up, lipstick, and hair style.
It’s true that celebrities’ flawless make ups are the masterpiece of professional makeup artists. But that does not mean we can not make it as our make up inspiration for Prom. Take a look closer on 2012 Oscars and Paris Fashion Week make ups.

Eyes

Gorgeous Lashes – Shailene Woodley chose make up with natural colors like brown and light pink. However, make up can still steal the show by making your eyelashes look gorgeously dramatic. Shailene used extra mascara on the top and bottom lashes to frame her eyes beautifully and sophisticated. If your bottom lashes aren’t long enough, you can attach fake bottom eyelashes.

Fabulous Eyes -  Experimenting and being creative with make up is the trademark of the make up artists who work in the fashion house in Paris. Just look at Chanel’s model with beautiful colors of shiny rocks eyebrows. Miu Miu’s model’s fabulous eyes with the blend of white and blue eye shadows that shaped like wings glistened with beads that decorate the corners of her eyes and eyebrows. Mugler’s model’s eye make up with black and red stripes inspired by the cultures of Asia. Lastly,  Manish Arora’s model’s eyelashes with a butterfly-shaped wings, so gorgeous and creative. Would you try these eye make up for Prom?

Lips

The Classic Red Lips - Rooney Mara is almost never over-dressed but also never look too plain. Her make up is always in the right proportions and she always look great. At Oscars 2012, Rooney did not wear too much make up, but what’s interesting was the ruby red lips paired with bold black eyebrows that made her look elegant and mysterious. Don’t you love her make up?

The Fierce Factor - What could make an appearance look fierce? A lipstick. Take a look at the model of YSL with her dramatic red-blood lips paired with bright gold eye makeup. Viktor &Rolf ‘s model wore two different colors of red lipstick to create dimension on the lips and combined with silvery eye makeup that added a fierce look. Eye make up and nude cheeks can become stronger with the outward appearance of a dark red lipstick with a matte effect as seen in Rochas’ model. Givenchy’s model looked fierce as well as mysterious with sepia eye make up and chocolate coffee lipstick.

Hair

Side Swept Hair – Dare to be different on Prom? Try this side swept hair like the models on Paris Fashion Week 2012.
Hair parted to the side can produce several different impression. Model on catwalk Hussein Chalayan swept her wavy hair to the left and let it loose a gentle effect on the model’s face. Leonard’s model looked rather masculine with short layers swept to the right covered almost half the face. At Christian Dior’s runway stage, the model was styled as a fierce lady with her hair sleek hair swept to the right. Giambattista Valli’s recent model wore her voluminous hair like a side hat.
A while back, we also discussed about the Do’s and Don’ts for Hair & Make Up, definitely check it out to get more make up and hair inspiration for Prom.

Mixing Colors

Wants to play with colors? You can also wear bright colors eye shadows like Ginnifer Goodwin in this 2012 Oscar after-party. Apply green shimmery eye shadows on your eyelids. Make sure your eye shadows blend perfectly on your eyelids. Then apply shimmery lipstick to freshen up your eye makeup, you can try peach or coral.
What was so interesting about Olivia Spencer’s make up? The answer is her two-tone eye shadow. Olivia wore two complementary colors eye shadow. Did you like her make up? Before applying eye shadows, first you must apply some Primer on the whole eyelid. This will allow the eye shadows look all out and durable. Then apply peach eye shadow on the eyelid, then apply black or dark grey eye shadow on the outer edge forming a triangle eyes and a perfect blend to reinforce the shape of your eyes.
How would you do your hair and make up for Prom this year? We’d love to hear from you :)
