Get Two Looks with the Convertible Dress

The 2-in-1 Dress | Mc Duggal 85172R

While “window shopping” through our latest collection of evening dresses, we’ve noticed a trend that will surely be a hit come Prom and Homecoming season. Our esteemed and not to mention, clever designers gave Prom and Homecoming dresses a tasteful twist this 2013; thus, the birth of the 2-in-1 convertible dress. Get this, with one super dress, you can have two smashing looks for your special night –and, without the complication of having to follow a how-to manual.

Above dress by Mac Duggal (85172R) is one example of what we’re taking about. It has a full skirt, much like a gown. It looks more like a hi-lo dress and/or a dress that has a slit. Then, by simply removing the belted skirt, you get a glamorous short jumpsuit or mini dress. Fantastic, right?

Here’s another example of the said 2-look dress. It’s by Sherri Hill, and it’s one of our favorites.

Sherri Hill 21165

And even better, this lace number comes in two other stand-out colors.

Sherri Hill 21165

Just a little tip, try the ball-gown look of the dress for your grand entrance into your Prom or Homecoming; take pictures with your lovely escort, slow dance, and such. Then later on in the night, transform for party mode in the sexy mini version of the dress. You’ll be able to move more freely and look more relaxed. To completely change-up the look, try changing your shoes and accessories. Imagine that; and more, your Prom pictures would be more fun to look at. Have we got you interested? Bridal or Red Carpet? Reem Acra Pre-Spring 2013

Reem Acra Resort 2013

For pre-Spring 2013, topnotch designer, Reem Acra presents a collection more than worthy of the walk down the aisle AND the red carpet. This outstanding designer has fully transcended from Bridal to Hollywood. And this time she seems to be drawing in the younger crowd again. We imagine, with the colored-lace short dresses, the fluid caftans, the flowy and embellished tulle gowns, she will  attract the likes of Selena Gomez, Lea Michele, Dianna Agron, Vanessa Hudgens, Anna Kendrick, Emma Roberts, who not to mention, have already worn her creations.

Acra’s palette includes ivory and champagne, sugary pastels (peach and mint green), and jewel tones. Her pleating plus layering to make full skirts is genius. She perfectly balances pretty and polished, romantic and unique with her strategic positioning of lace and beads.

We’re neither a bride nor a soon-to-be Prom queen, but we’re loving on these dresses! We particularly love the ivory dress with sheer-laced sleeves (first row), nude dress with sheer-beaded sleeves and ruffles in the skirt (third row), and the peach dress with lace from bodice to skirt (fourth row). Which is your favorite?

Hot Trend: Nude Illusion Featuring Jovani Spring 2013 Prom Collection

Primary Photo

Spotted: the nude illusion style on a good number of pieces in the Jovani Spring 2013 Prom Collection. The nude illusion trend has been a favourite in Hollywood, and has been done by the likes of Emilio Pucci, Elie Saab, Marchesa, Roberto Cavalli, Atelier Versace, and Alexander McQueen.

Nude illusion is a dress design in which a sexy sheer fabric veils skin that would otherwise be exposed, somewhat like a stocking. This frothy confection keeps a supposedly sizzling number a notch demure to maintain the elegance and sophistication. Lace overlay, or stone and sequin-embellished tulle, are strategically positioned on the dress to create a peekaboo of skin in the most teasing areas. Such a touch of drama leaves us here at MissesDressy.com all giddy and excited. Check-out the nude illusion trend on these fun, flirty, romantic, and sassy pieces by Jovani Prom, available at MissesDressy.com.

White clothes always reminds me of spring/Summer, S/S is the best time to wear pure white as it’s such a crisp and fresh color.  If you have a special party, wedding party etc to go this this summer then why not try a white dress this time.  We have so many white dresses from mini to maxi lengths take your pick.

I think details on a piece of clothing is very important, so if you do often go for plain I think you could maybe choose something with some slight details on the dress then at least there’s something to look at on the dress.  You don’t have to have feathers on the dress but just some beading, embellishment, sequins on the dress will do the job.

Style Tips: Re-Wear Your Prom Dress

style tips rewear

It’s sad how some girls sacrifice style when they refuse to buy a fabulous dress for prom thinking that it will be a waste of money since they’ll only get to wear the dress once. Thankfully there is a solution to every problem and believe it or not, you can buy a fabulous prom dress and get your money’s worth. Here are a few simple shopping and style tips to help you out:

  1.  If possible, stick with a cocktail dress because they are easier to re-wear after prom and on the plus side, they make you look taller than you really are especially when paired with high heels.
  2. Less is more. Find a prom dress that doesn’t have too much details like huge rhinestones or appliques since these are harder to downplay.
  3. When shopping for a prom dress, always consider how you can re-wear it; where are you going to wear them again and how are you going to style them differently.
  4. Dress down any prom dress by layering. Throw on a leather jacket and boots for a more rugged or edgy look or cover up the top part of your dress with a blazer and cinch with a skinny belt for an office look. If you have a long prom dress, throw on a sweater and slip on a pair of flats or sandals for a boho vibe.

Remember to be creative and just have fun when you decide to re-wear your prom dress. Below are some examples on how you can re-wear your prom dress:

I would like to share some of my tips to shop while you’re on a budget…

  • Decide how much money you want to spend for the whole outfit (dress, accessories, shoes)
Say, your budget is $300, find a dress that costs around $150 to $ 200, then you can use the rest of the money for accessories (necklace, earrings, bracelet – if necessary) and shoes.
  • Go for non-traditional dress
Typically, Prom dress is a classic princess-y ball gowns, but fashion is about thinking outside the box and creating trends. We are so lucky to live in this modern era that most of the things doesn’t have to be traditional. You no longer have to wear a ball gown (unless you really want to). Choose a statement mini dress, easy to wear and no need to worry about someone stepping on your dress. Or gorgeous chiffon dress, or even fabulous printed dress to look stunning and different than others.

Prom Inspiration: 2012 Grammy Awards

Prom Inspiration - 2012 Grammy Awards

Some wore daring high slit dresses, some wore gorgeous bridal-like dresses, some wore quirky eye-catching dresses, and some stayed classic with long sleeve gowns. Crazier than usual, but you must scroll down to read the article below.

Long Sleeve

If the usual red carpet event filled with more revealing gowns, this year we saw many celebrities chose gowns with long sleeves. Melissa George chose a black leather gown, Katy Perry looked fabulous with blue hair and stunning in a pale blue gown, Fearne Cotton looked very elegant in a coral dress with black ribbon, Carrie Underwood wore sparkling sequins gown with open back detail, and Adele, who took home four Grammy, wore LBD with sparkle details and dazzling red lipstick. Simple, classic, and gorgeous!

Details All Over

Musicians are usually bold and expressive in their outfit selection. This year Taylor Swift, Kelly Osbourne, and Kelly Rowland chose gowns with pretty intricate details. Sequins, glitters, beads, and embroidery are such a timeless couple for evening gowns, these details will make every gown looks luxurious, elegant, and of course expensive.

How High Can You Go?

Part of the skirt has a new level of extreme and dangerously sexy. Rihanna in her deep V-neck, backless, with high slit black gown was so sexy. While Porcelain Black’s dress purposely showed off her undergarment. Musician geek, Cyndi Lauper, wore a tuxedo with messy hair-do, she looked edgy. Anne V, Victoria’s Secret model, chose LBD with an extremely high slit up to the waist. Lastly, with her hair shaved, Amber Rose looked confident in her yellow one-shoulder gown. MissesDressy.com surely has a lot of dangerously sexy dresses! Check out some of our collection..

Eye Catching

These four dresses certainly invited a lot of attention. Jessie J. looked so fabulous like a disco ball in her metallic gown. Fergie wore a bright orange dress with embroidery details, showed off her underwear . Corinne Bailey Rae wore an LBD with bunches of ruffles on the skirt. Lastly, Christina Ricci shined in a gold wrap dress.

Here Comes The Bride

White dress is very identical to the wedding dress, but these 6 beauties proved that the styling and the right accessories made their dresses looked very elegant and appropriate to be worn at red carpet events (or even Proms!).
Tilda Swinton wore a white dress that somehow looked like a cropped top and high-waisted maxi skirt. Shailene Woodley, a young actress who played the daughter of George Clooney in The Descendants, looked elegant in her white gown. Oh, guess what? This could be the best view of Paris Hilton on the red carpet! She wore a white gown with sheer details and embroidery, very elegant and stylish. Don’t you think Kristen Wiig looked angelic in a white strapless dress? Lastly, Kate Beckinsale looked so fresh and young with a mini one-shoulder dress.
Find similar dresses on MissesDressy.com!
So, which one is your favorite? Which gown would you wear to Prom? I’d love to hear from you!
