The Bold and the Beautiful at the 2012 NYC Ballet Fall Gala

NYC Ballet Invitation

20 September 2012, Thursday, New York City Ballet celebrated the commencement of the 2012-2013 fall season with the first of “4 highly-anticipated benefit events“. They had yet another event that raised funds for the NYC Ballet while guests were given the chance to mingle with the company’s awesome dancers. The event entitled Celebrating Valentino, featured new costumes created by the notable and visionary fashion designer, Valentino Garavani.

The black-tie ball, prepared for over 800 guests, served as a stage not only for the ballet company’s extraordinary dancers, but for the most stylish celebrities as well. Stars paraded on the red carpet with fashion that reminded us here at MissesDressy.com of our Eclectic Eccentricity Style Series, You’re Majes-tic: Fashion Fit for a Queen, Superhero Style: Capes, and Flowy Flair posts. The style trend for the night seemed to be voluminous and theatrical, bold and beautiful. Below is our pick of the most memorable looks that night:

Anne Hathaway in Valentino

The romantic side of Miss Anne showed in this lovely sheer floral and lace dress with emphasized romantic sleeves. The Fall colours on the dress well complemented her short brown hair.

Sarah Jessica Parker in Valentino

SJP also donned a floral dress and matched it with a printed cape. The bold print on print was perfectly styled with gold waist-cinching belt.

Karolina Kurkova in Valentino

Karolina stole the spotlight when she arrived in a Valentino Fall 2012 Couture gown in the powerful signature red shade by the label. Flowy and bright weren’t good enough because to add to the volume, she opted to wear the matching cape.

Olivia Palermo in Christian Dior

Olivia’s look may be too much for many, but we thinks she pulled-off the non-minimal look. She had on a dress with black one-shoulder fringed top and pale pink pleated tiers. She accessorized with a feathered purple clutch to match her dress.

Colour Trend Thursdays: Angelic White on Super Celebrities

Backstage at the Victoria's Secret Runway Show

Allow us to launch the Colour Trend Thursday series, with the classic, all-time favourite color: white. Would you agree that white never goes out of style? Crisp, clean, pure, angelic, innocent, delicate, fresh — the positive descriptions could go on. And, many of us have made it our go-to colour because of how immaculate it makes us feel.

Some celebrities have paraded in white on the red carpet a number of times; the sexy Jessica Biel even doing it back to back.

Jessica Biel turned heads in a skirt suit ala Coco Chanel, in an angelic white gown at Fashion Group International's 28th annual Night of Stars, and in knee-length white lace dress by bridal couturier Elie Saab.

Ms. Biel’s co-star in “Total Recall”, the darling Kate Beckinsale, also donned a white frock in one of the movie’s premieres.

These two lovely ladies seem to love white, even appearing in the colour at the same time.

Here are a few other stars who favor white over other colours for quite a number of their red carpet appearances:

Blake Lively

Diane Kruger

Kirsten Dunst

Another beauty in a notably fantastic white gown is Rachel Weisz.

Even the Queen B rocked a memorable white dress in a smashing performance. Beyonce performed in a micro-sequined all-white gown with bold shoulder detail, a neck cut-out and full sleeves from the Marc Bouwer Pre-Fall 2012 collection.

2012 MMVA Style Match

2012 MMVA

I think by now you readers have observed how much we like creating style matches of female celebrities’ red carpet dresses. I have to admit, it is fun and it just proves our point that with MissesDressy, looking like your favorite celebrity doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Speaking of style matches, the 2012 MuchMusic Video Awards was held last June 17 in Toronto, Canada with famous celebrities such as Selena Gomez, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Katy Perry strutting (or riding, in Carly Rae Jepsen’s case) down the red carpet in their stylish dresses. You know what this means, right?

Right. So let’s get to the style matches, shall we?

Recreate Nelly Furtado’s strapless Herve Leger number with the Faviana 6821 dress. The rose details on the Faviana dress also creates a volume which emphasizes the hip area. Pear shaped women should avoid this style.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d have believed that Selena Gomez was wearing a Scala P1014 gold sequined dress instead of a Roberto Cavalli.

Into Carly Rae Jepsen’s double slit gown? Well, you can get the same style with MissesDressy‘s Jovani 3112 dress. Don’t worry, it’s also available in black! Dannijo necklace not included.
