Top 5 Fashion Trends of 2012

2012 Top 5 Fashion Trends

This is our round-up of the top 5 favorite style inspirations and fashion statements in the year that was 2012. We give you the most memorable trends that debuted and reappeared on the runways, red carpets, stylish streets, and editorial pages. Are you ready?

1. Revival of the Dark Eras: Baroque and Gothic

Famously avant-garde designers like Alexader McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Aquilano Rimondi, and Balmain revived these period styles for 2012, and boy did they make the fashion world ecstatic.

Baroque implies strangeness, drama, and extravagance. In the modern times, these are interpreted by way of incorporating gold, brocade, and other luxe materials.

While, Gothic, with its rich, mysterious, and darkly romantic qualities, saves dark colours from the death of being boring.

2. Prints, Prints, Prints

With floral and scarf, aztec and animal, swirls and dots and zigzags, cosmic and paint splash, 2012 never had a scarcity of prints. But, what’s awesome was the print on print play on a lot of outfits. And, why, whether in haute couture or RTW, prints were present year round.

3. Surprise of Sexy Skin

Showing off of skin got quite classy in 2012. Ladies opted to tease with just a hint of skin through sheer fabrics. Peekaboo of skin also got inventive with the birth of laser cut-outs, and with the designs that cleverly accentuated just one body part like the back, shoulder, or waist.

4. Metallic Madness

Sparkles and glitters are synonymous to glamour — and glamour, fashion could not live without; therefore, silvers, golds, and even pinks in the form of sequins and shimmery fabrics are requirements every year, yes even in 2012. Any objections?

5. Neon and Brights

Okay, so white, black, and red had been crowd favourites this year. But, if we must say, neon and brights in every hue imaginable drastically changed the tides and made quite the impression on the fashion-forward gen. Neon and brights coloured even the usually serious and classic lace, doilies, eyelets, fringe, and fur giving out a quirky vibe. Who’s to say that neon worked even in metallic fabrics.

Valentino Pre-Fall 2013

2012 style and fashion could be described in these words: inventive, outrageous, and fearlessly individual. Both new bloods and established designers revitalized the fashion world and satisfied the hunger of edgy and experimental stylistas for fresh perspectives and more personal, characteristic, custom takes on style. So, generally it had been a year of success for fashion, don’t you agree?

Other top trends that didn’t make it to the top 5, but were notably present, were fringe and feathers, peplum, and ombre.

Which trend gets your thumbs-up?

The Rebellious Bride: Top 8 Bridal Dress Trends for 2013

cool-bride-wallpaper,1366x768,63946

The 21st century bride no longer abides to customs and traditions of old, well at least, in terms of style. We see that she asserts herself, speaking her mind through fashion, and daring to show who she is by telling her story through unconventional styling. With that in mind, our trusty designers put twists to bridal gown designs to convey the differing personalities of their ultimate muse: the rebellious bride.

Here are our top 8 bridal dress trends, perfect for the modern brides.

1. Rouged, etc. Brides just wanna have fun; and fun they find in cheery colours: red, pink, blush, even greens and blues. The fierce fearless bride wouldn’t settle for white, and instead, would choose to be bright and beautiful in a coloured wedding dress.

Pretty Tough: Femininity in Leather for F/W 2012-2013

Kristen Stewart
Aside from prints and colours, texture counts as one the biggest things in style for Fall/Winter 2012-2013. And in that case, of course, leather’s presence cannot be downplayed. Leather, being a universally popular textured fabric, remains to be dominant on the runways from London, Paris, Milan, to New York . But what’s different for this season is how it is combined with other classic and rich materials like silk, tweeds, chiffon, tulle, and lace, to create a powerful yet feminine aesthetic. Check-out how the top designers masterfully incorporate leather in their couture pieces to achieve a classic tough edginess balanced with soft modernity.

Teen Vogue’s Best Dressed Style Match

PicMonkey-Collage1

Every week, Teen Vogue announces the top 10 best dressed celebrities of the week. This week’s picks include Nikki Reed, Katy Perry, Jessica Biel, Bella Thorne, Coco Rocha, Selita Ebanks, Ashley Greene, Sophia Bush, Dianna Agron, and Anna Kendrick. Their dresses came from designers Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander McQueen, Elie Saab, and more. These styles can also be achieved by dresses from MissesDressy.com.

Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel wore an Elie Saab lace dress with a matching shawl to the premiere of Total Recall.

Mon Cheri 110837 is a similar lace embroidered dress with capped sleeves. It is suitable for all four seasons of the year as long as it is paired with the proper accessories/outerwear.

Nikki Reed

Nikki Reed wore Alexander McQueen with green lizard print/texture and ruffles.

Sherri Hill 2948 is similar and simpler dress with added bling to it. If you liked the Nikki's dress, but want to take it out to a club, this dress is perfect!

Katy Perry

To the premiere of her movie, Part of Me, Katy Perry wore a metallic dress with long sleeves and a train. The dress shined with floral texture.

Jovani 5883 like the Dolce and Gabbana dress silhouette hugs your curves. This jewel-embezzled dress has a cream-silver gradient effect and wide shoulder straps.

Bella Thame

Bella Thorne attended Bring It On: The Musical premiere with a rough textured Keepsake dress with a two-layered skirt.

Mon Cheri 211844 is a darker version of the Keepsake dress with an alternative texture. The darker color makes the dress look more sophisticated than the Keepsake dress.

Coco Rocha

Coco Rocha wore a super basic LBD with the classic boat neckline and gold embellishment to the premiere of Total Recall.

Atria 7104 is also a simple LBD  like Coco Rocha’s. The sleeves are lace instead of gold embellishment, and they extend to the side and back of the bodice. This is a little more daring in comparison to the other dress.

Selita Ebanks

Selita Ebanks sported a trendy sheer peplum dress by Stella McCartney at the 10th Annual Ford Hoodie Awards.

NUE will never fall short on combining style with business. NUE by Shani S511 is practically the same as the dress by Stella McCartney, minus the sheer sleeves. Instead, it has a metallic look to the peplum top.

Sheer Delight

Katie Fogarty

Word on the street is ladies who dare to bare have made sheer the new trend in street style. Sheer elements in dresses highlight the desirable parts of a woman’s body, without making them look vulgar or boorish. In fact, sheer accents make women look teasingly interesting and exciting.

Either with tulle, lace, or chiffon, express sheer delight in your own yum-o frock. Check-out Mon Cheri and Tadashi Shoji dresses, available at MissesDressy.com.
