Who says being a bride-to-be is easy? Engagement Party

The first occasion before the wedding is the engagement party. Engagement parties were basically held for the purpose of announcing a couple’s engagement, but nowadays engagements are usually announced before the party, hence it became more of a celebration in honor of the newly engaged couple.

Bridal Shower

Originally, a bridal shower is where friends of the bride-to-be gather to bring gifts that would compensate for the dowry the family of the bride-to-be cannot afford or when the  father does not approve of the man she is to marry. Eventually this became a tradition which friends of the bride-to-be (usually the bridesmaids) hosts. The purpose of this particular event is to shower the engaged couple with gifts which range from stuff they can use in the household to silly novelty gifts.

Bachelorette Party

The bachelorette party, often mistaken for being the same as the bridal shower, is commonly the last occasion before the wedding. It is held shortly before the big day (also appropriately held during the evening). The bride-to-be and her girlfriends go out to have fun and to celebrate her “last night of freedom”. A bachelorette party usually entails a night of drinking.
